Background

Since youth, Ipomea was a flower fairy who preferred to keep to herself, often creating vines to climb up to higher places from people. It's not that she was shy or disliked them, she just found comfort in the sweet and calming sound of silence. Every morning after she got up and ready for the day, she'd go outside and climb to her favorite place and play with the dew on all the plants using her unique water manipulating abilities. At a young age she showed mastery over flowers and water, but what really gained the attention of her peers was the unique hairstyles she did with the help of her mother. Often implementing flowers and huge droplets of water in them to reflect light.

Sunshine

In elementary, there was a flower fairy/flower demon girl with gold hair who caught the attention of everyone, even Ipomea at first. But she then realized if she were to associate with her, all the extra attention would rub off on Ipomea, so she was fine with the other getting it all.

But one day while the other children played, the golden girl approached the Ipomea at her usual spot atop her vines, but was ignored out of fear for attracting others.  Ipomea thought she had left as it grew quiet and was shocked when she turned around to see the other had climbed the vines to her sanctuary! The golden girl complimented the fairy on her hair and the styles she always does for it, and asked her how she did it. The other would usually be used to these kinds of compliments, but was surprised it was coming from someone with literal gold for hair. She simply replied, “My mom helps me and I just go with whatevers cute”.
“Can you help me with mine?” she asked, turning around, “I’ve never tried to style it before.”
Ipomea paused. Nobody had ever asked Ipomea to style their hair before, and she knew this girl didn't let other's touch her hair. She was flattered by the request.
“Ok...” Then another pause. “How am I supposed to..?”
“You can just mold it with your hands, and tell me how it’s supposed to look so I can shape it!”

Afterwards, the two end up with matching hairstyles. The golden girl, who introduces herself as Helianthus, thanks Ipomea, and asks her if she’d help her on other days too to come up with cool styles. Ipomea agrees, and Helianthus suggests they go show off how good they look together, leading her new friend down the ivy vines.

Over the years, Ipomea helped Helianthus develop her own sense of style, along with their friendship.
