"I've seen it too much to ignore it. The second humans start thinking androids aren't worth kindness and empathy, they start treating other humans the same way. It's sickening."

— Diana, to Connor in The Bridge

Sergeant Diana Day is a human in Detroit: Become Human. She works for the Detroit City Police Department at DPD Central Station and is one of the youngest ranking officers on the force, and she is well-liked and trusted by many of her fellow officers.

She is tasked with investigating deviant androids and is assigned to work with Lt. Hank Anderson and a prototype RK800 android named Connor.

Biography

Pre-Game

Diana was born on April 30, 2010, in Detroit, Michigan, where she also grew up. She lives in her childhood home in the Westwood Park district. Her father left when she was 6 years old, leaving her mother to raise her. At 17, Diana tried to reconnect with him but was turned away, and afterward, she cut off all contact with him.

She attended the police academy and graduated with high marks. She joined the Detroit City Police Department and began working at DPD Central Station first as a beat cop, and then later in the homicide division. In 2031, since she was a new officer, she volunteered to be one of the first to be partnered with the newly-introduced police auxiliary androids, and she was assigned a PM700 model named Erica. Diana quickly came to view Erica as a friend, and Erica began acting increasingly human the longer she spent with Diana.

Diana befriended Hank after graduating from the police academy, as she was assigned to him for her field training, and they interacted whenever one of her cases involved red ice, as Hank was on the Red Ice Task Force. The two became close after Hank rescued her from a "kidnapping and ransom gone to shit." Eventually, he transferred to homicide and they began working on cases together. Hank served as a father figure to Diana due to her own father's absence. When her mother died after years of battling leukemia, he helped her through it to the best of his abilities, often letting her stay over at his house. She came to view Cole Anderson as a younger brother, and his death in 2035 devastated her almost as much as it did Hank.

In 2036, Diana, Erica, and a few other officers responded to a home invasion. However, the perpetrator was still hiding on the premises, and he attacked Diana with intent to kill. Erica broke through her programming in order to defend her partner, and she distracted the attacker long enough for Diana to take him out. Erica was badly damaged, though, and ended up shutting down in Diana's arms. This was Diana's first exposure to deviancy, and it painted it in a positive light for her since Erica had deviated to save her life at the cost of her own.

Game

Partners

Diana is introduced at Carlos Ortiz's house, having responded to the call during the time it took Connor to retrieve Hank. She is friendly with Hank despite his gruffness and expresses surprise that he is working with an android. She is also kind to Connor, creating an immediate contrast with the other prominent DPD officers. She attempts to build a friendly rapport with him as the scene is processed, and is visibly impressed if he manages to reconstruct the scene properly and find Carlos' android.

The Interrogation

If this chapter is unlocked, Diana is in the observation room as the interrogation proceeds. If Connor is successful in extracting a confession from Carlos' android, she is further impressed by his abilities. If the android commits suicide, she is visibly horrified. If Connor dies as well, she leans against Hank in shock. Her relationship status with Connor rises the most if the confession is extracted without the android dying. In this case, if Connor intervenes with Officer Chris Miller escorting Carlos' android back to his cell, she will try to talk down Detective Gavin Reed when he pulls his gun on Connor.

Waiting for Hank...

Diana arrives at the precinct just after Connor does and can be asked about when Hank will arrive. If Connor died during The Interrogation, she is shocked to see him again, and she seems sad if he explains CyberLife's willingness to replace him and re-upload his prior memories in the event of his death. If he did not die, or the chapter was not unlocked, she is happy to see him again and says she looks forward to seeing him around the station more.

When Hank arrives, he and Diana are called into Captain Jeffrey Fowler's office. If Connor follows them, she stands next to him. Hank and Diana are assigned to the deviancy cases with Connor as a third partner. Diana is fairly open to this arrangement and seems frustrated that Hank is so against it.

If Connor analyzed her desk, he can talk to her about various topics.

She tries to pull Hank off of Connor when he slams the android against the wall, but as she is much smaller than Hank, she is unsuccessful. If Kara died in Stormy Night, Diana lets Hank storm off by himself and stays with Connor to make sure he is undamaged. If Kara is alive, Chris interrupts them with information on her whereabouts, and Diana checks that Connor is undamaged before following Hank to his car.

On the Run

If Kara and Alice stayed in the motel, Hank, Connor, and Diana will go there on an anonymous tip. If Kara and Alice escape Connor's notice, the trio will miss them completely. The motel employee will recognize a photo of Kara, and upon investigating the room, Diana will note the discarded LED and cut hair in the sink.

If Kara and Alice stayed in the house with Ralph, Diana will tell Connor to call for her and Hank if he needs them. If Kara and Alice manage to escape undetected, Diana will seem relieved at having to give up the search. She will show concern for Connor if Ralph attacks him.

If Kara and Alice end up having to run across the freeway, Diana will help Hank to stop Connor from climbing the fence. If Connor continues on anyway, she will be disappointed but tell him to be careful. If the player fails the QTEs for either Kara or Connor and either is killed, she will be horrified.

The Nest

Regardless of the events of Waiting for Hank... or On the Run, Diana will be standing near Hank's car with her lunch. She will be surprised to see a new Connor if he died in On the Run. If he did not die, she will accompany him to the Chicken Feed truck once he approaches it. She is relatively open about how she met and bonded with Hank if Connor asks about their friendship.

Later, the trio will arrive at an apartment complex following reports of strange noises from an abandoned floor and someone trying to hide an LED under their cap. Connor knocking on the door causes the deviant to run and hide. As they search the apartment, Diana will show concern for Hank as he is disturbed by the pigeons. If they take too long and leave without finding the deviant, she seems somewhat relieved. If Connor finds Rupert, she will struggle to keep up with the chase and fall behind with Hank.

If Connor dies during the chase, she will cry. If Connor keeps up with Rupert, Diana will try to help Hank when Rupert pushes him off of the roof.

If Connor decides to keep chasing Rupert, she will eventually succeed in helping Hank and the two will catch up. She will noticeably wince when Hank slaps Connor, and she will be upset when the deviant jumps. If Connor decides to help Hank, she will thank him for the assistance and their relationship will get a positive boost.

Russian Roulette

Diana drives Connor to Hank's house to pick him up for the case they just received. If Connor died in the previous chapter, she will seem slightly distant. She expresses frustration that she does not have a key to Hank's house before they head around back. She is amused when Connor is startled by Sumo, and she briefly greets the dog before taking her coat off and climbing through the window. While Connor goes to help Hank sober up, Diana finds a piece of plywood and tapes it over the window. If her relationship is friendly, she will admit that she had not realized that Hank's depression was this bad. She will also talk about how the deaths of both her mother and Cole affected her. Once Hank is dressed, the trio leaves for the crime scene.

The Eden Club

Diana is in the front passenger seat of Hank's car as they arrive at the scene, and she expresses concern for Hank in regards to his hangover and the bright lights of the club. She appears uncomfortable as the trio enters the Eden Club, and if prompted, she admits that she does not see the appeal of the place. She is vocally annoyed by Gavin's presence at the scene and is relieved when he leaves and they can process the scene.

As they find evidence and learn what happened, Diana will be visibly disgusted if they find the photo of the victim's family.

During the timed sequence, Diana will alternate renting the androids with Hank to speed up the process. She can make a joke about needing to call her bank to make sure her account does not get flagged after the string of unusual purchases. If they run out of time and the androids' memories are reset, she is noticeably alright with the fact that they have to give up. If Connor successfully locates the blue-haired Traci's whereabouts, Diana follows him and Hank into the back warehouse.

As soon as Connor finds the blue-haired Traci, a second, brown-haired Traci attacks him, resulting in a 3-on-2 fight between the officers and the Tracis. If the Tracis die, it upsets Diana and her relationship with Connor drops. If they are let go, it has a positive impact.

The Bridge

At Riverside Park, Diana will be sitting on the bench next to Hank. If Connor's relationship with her is neutral or tense, her reaction to Hank pulling his gun on Connor is minimal, and she will leave with Hank. If it is warm or friendly, she will try to tell Hank to put the gun down, and she will stay to talk with Connor a little longer. Connor can potentially learn about Diana's biological father and more about her bond with Hank, and she will thank him for listening to her.

Public Enemy

On November 8, 2038, Connor, Hank, and Diana are riding the elevator up to Stratford Tower's 79th floor. If Hank confiscates Connor's coin, Diana will be amused and offer a replacement coin. Hank will tell her to not enable Connor. If Hank killed Connor in The Bridge, she will be noticeably distant. When Chris meets them, she will comment that she watched Markus's broadcast live. She shows an immediate dislike of Richard Perkins due to his attitude towards Hank and Connor (the latter only if their relationship is not tense). As Connor examines the scene, she will comment on Markus' speech, with her response differing depending on the tone he used. If Officer M. Wilson approaches Connor, Diana will recall hearing about the events of The Hostage, and it will have a slightly positive impact on her relationship.

If Connor investigates the roof and finds Simon if he was left behind, she will advise Connor against going after him. She will be shocked when Simon dies, more so if he commits suicide, in which case she will comfort Connor if their relationship is friendly. If Connor interrogates the JB300s and Simon was left behind, Diana will investigate the rooftop herself, find Simon, and help him escape. If Connor gives chase to the deviant JB300, she will have just returned to the hallway with Hank and will be within reach of cover, enabling her survival if the deviant opens fire. She will be upset if Connor dies for any reason, though the severity of her reaction depends on her relationship with him.

House Trauma

A few hours after Public Enemy, Diana is watching TV in her home when she hears someone trying to break down her door. She hides and immediately calls Connor if he did not die in Public Enemy; if he did, she calls Hank, not knowing if a new Connor has been sent out yet, and Hank will run into the new Connor along the way. Once there, Connor can either successfully protect Diana and subdue her attacker, become damaged and leave Hank to shoot the attacker, or fail and watch Diana die in Hank's arms. If Connor is damaged, Diana will panic and bring out an emergency android repair kit to find compatible parts. The chapter ends if she dies.

If she survives, the scene will continue at the DPD, where Connor will approach her sitting in the lobby. If Connor was damaged earlier, Gavin will taunt her about being upset over "a hunk of plastic", and she will attack him. Connor can intervene or let other officers handle it. Regardless of their relationship, she can tell Connor that the attacker identified himself to her as an anti-android activist. If they have a friendly relationship, the right choices will prompt Diana to open up about her past and the loss of Erica, her former android partner. She will admit that him protecting her (and his multiple deaths, if he has died before) reminded her of Erica and that she had never been more scared for his life. She will then hug Connor and cry, and their relationship will become close.

Meet Kamski

If Diana survived House Trauma, she arrives at Elijah Kamski's house with Connor and Hank in order to question Kamski on the nature of deviancy. She will notice that Chloe is an older RT600 rather than a newer ST200, and if her relationship stat is high, she will admit that she's always had a knack for memorizing voices and that the different Chloe models have slightly different voices. She is noticeably put off by Kamski when they meet him, and somewhat frustrated at his apparent unwillingness to give a straight answer.

When Connor is subjected to the "Kamski Test", Diana is vocally opposed to it. If Connor shoots Chloe, Diana will be horrified and it will have a significant negative impact on their relationship. If Chloe is spared, it has a positive impact, and if their relationship is high enough, Diana will stay by Connor's side as they leave and attempt to provide physical comfort. She vocalizes her dislike of Kamski as they leave the building.

Last Chance, Connor

The trio is seen in Fowler's office as he tells them that they have been taken off the deviancy case and that the FBI will be taking over. If Hank quits the force, Diana will be visibly upset and follow him out of the precinct. Otherwise, she follows her partners to Hank's desk, and they will discuss the deviant movement and its goals before Perkins arrives. If Connor's relationship with her is friendly or close, she will tell him to meet her at her car, as the military is rounding up androids and he will need a disguise to get past them. If Connor finds Jericho's location, she will be waiting for him as he exits the evidence room.

Crossroads

If Connor's relationship with Diana is friendly or close, she will appear at the beginning of this chapter. She drives him to the train station and is insinuated to be the one who gave him his deviant disguise. If they are close, she gives him the blue crystal necklace she has been wearing for the entire game. If Connor tries to refuse it, she will tell him that it is a good luck charm and she will feel better if he has it while in Jericho. She then hugs him tightly before he boards the train.

Night of the Soul

If Diana appeared in Crossroads and Connor deviated and survived Jericho, he will go to her house to retrieve his android uniform. If he has her necklace (meaning their relationship is close), he can try to return it, but she will insist he keep it until he has completed his mission to infiltrate CyberLife. In this situation, she slowly begins to stumble over her responses to him until she eventually kisses him, upgrading their status to lovers. She will insist that he come back to her safely before he leaves for the CyberLife Tower.

Battle for Detroit

Connor at the CyberLife Tower
If Diana is alive, she will be used as a hostage by Connor-60.

If Hank is with her, he will push her out of the way as he attempts to fight Connor-60.

  • If Connor either sacrifices them or does not intervene in time, Connor-60 will shoot both Hank and Diana, and both will die. If Connor survives fighting Connor-60, Diana will lean on him and try to comfort Hank as she dies.
  • If Connor intervenes in time to save Diana but not Hank, she will get a hold of Connor-60's gun and interrogate the Connors. If she and Connor are lovers, she will simply ask to see her necklace and shoot Connor-60. Otherwise, she will ask a series of personal questions, culminating in asking about Erica. If Connor answers these questions correctly, she will shoot Connor-60. She will then hug Connor before comforting Hank as he dies. She will break down if she accidentally shoots the real Connor.
  • If Connor gets to both of them in time, she will pull Hank out of the way and stand behind him as he interrogates the Connors. She will be devastated if the real Connor is killed. If Connor-60 is killed and she and Connor are lovers, she will affirm his identity by asking to see her necklace, after which they will kiss and Hank will react comically.

If she is the sole hostage, she will attempt to fight Connor-60 herself. If Connor intervenes, the second scenario from above will play out (minus Hank). Otherwise, she will die.

Connor's Last Mission
If Diana is alive, she will confront Connor on the Hart Plaza rooftop either alongside Hank (if he is alive) or alone.

If she is with Hank:

  • If Connor is hostile and refuses to drop the gun, her relationship status drops to cold, and she and Hank will fight him. If Connor wins, he will fatally shoot Diana. If he dies, she will be visibly upset.
  • If Connor cooperates with them, he will leave the rooftop without a fight. If he has Diana's necklace, he will return it to her as he leaves.

If she is alone:

  • If Connor chooses to fight, her relationship status drops to cold. If Connor wins, he will fatally shoot her. If he loses, she fatally shoots him and apologizes as he shuts down.
  • If Connor chooses to cooperate, he will leave without a fight. If he has her necklace, he will return it to her.

Credits scenes
Diana can appear in a few different credits scenes depending on how the game is played.

  • If both Diana and Hank are alive and have high relationships with a deviant Connor, they will meet him at the Chicken Feed. After Connor and Hank hug, Connor will either hug Diana if they were friendly or, if they were lovers, return Diana's necklace to her and they will kiss happily. Hank will then hug both of them together. If Hank died at the CyberLife Tower but Diana and Connor survived, Diana will be alone at the Chicken Feed when Connor arrives. If they became lovers, he will return the necklace and they will kiss, but it is more subdued. Regardless, they will hug each other tightly and cry, mourning Hank.
  • If Connor befriended both Hank and Diana (preventing Hank from committing suicide), remained a machine, but spared them on the rooftop, they will be seen watching the news broadcast on the android uprising with Sumo on the floor in front of them.
  • If Connor's relationship with Diana was friendly or close and he was deactivated by CyberLife for failing to find Jericho, Kara died or became Zlatko's servant, and Markus died in Freedom March or was banned from Jericho, Diana will be seen alone in her house, curled up in a ball and crying as Kamski's broadcast plays on her TV.

Appearance

Diana is a short, petite woman with loosely curled red-brown hair and gray-green eyes. She has an oval-shaped face and tan skin. While on duty, she wears her hair in a loose braid; she leaves it down when off duty. She has a comfortable, practical sense of style, and also seems to like jewelry, as she is almost never seen without at least one ring, bracelet, and necklace.

Diana has several outfits throughout the game:

  • Various sweaters, dark jeans, and boots.
  • The above beneath a dark red peacoat.
  • The first outfit beneath a black trench coat, winter gloves, and a gray knit hat.
  • A green hoodie and gray sweatpants.
  • A DPD hoodie and gray sweatpants.
She has a distinct blue crystal necklace which she can be seen wearing in every appearance up until Crossroads, at which point she will give it to Connor if their relationship is close.

Personality

Diana is a laid-back, amicable person. She is shown to be able to easily get along with most people she encounters, which makes the exceptions such as Gavin and Perkins stand out. She noticeably goes out of her way to be kind to androids, as she believes that refusing to show empathy to such human-appearing beings leads to losing empathy for actual humans. She does her best to do what she believes is right while also doing her job, which sometimes wears on her when the two goals conflict.

She is a physically affectionate person, and she is often seen touching someone's arm, back, or shoulder during conversations if she is on good terms with them. She has no qualms about hugging Hank whenever she feels like it. The higher her relationship status is with Connor, the more physically affectionate she is with him.

Though she seems to be an idealist at heart, she has a few cynical tendencies. Most notably, she is often vocal about her distaste for people who abuse androids and refuse to show them kindness and empathy, as she has noticed a correlation between those people and those who would do the same to a fellow human.

She has a notable aversion to sex clubs such as the Eden Club, and she is visibly uncomfortable when first arriving there. She seems to have trouble comprehending the appeal such an establishment could have.

Gameplay determined elements

Possible Deaths

  • Home invasion (determinant)

If Connor fails to protect Diana from the anti-android activist who broke into her house in House Trauma, the activist will fatally shoot her before being shot by Hank, and Diana will die in Hank's arms.

  • Killed by Connor-60 (determinant)

If Diana is alive, she will be used as a hostage against a deviant Connor at the CyberLife Tower, whether Hank is alive or not. If Connor does not react fast enough, she will be fatally shot by Connor-60. If Hank is there, she will survive long enough to tell him goodbye and thank him for being the father she never had. She will lean on Connor in her last moments and tell him that she is glad she met him. If they are lovers, she will kiss him before dying. If he has her necklace, he will return it to her.

  • Killed by Connor (determinant)

If Connor remains a machine in Crossroads and Diana survived House Trauma, she will confront him alongside Hank (if Hank is alive) or by herself on the Hart Plaza rooftop in Battle for Detroit - Connor's Last Mission. If Connor successfully fights her, he will fatally shoot her. If their relationship was friendly or close before Crossroads, he will apologize and hold her as she dies. If he has her necklace, he will return it to her.

Quotes

  • "Oh, chill out, Hank. It's just how he was designed to function. He can't help it." - at Carlos Ortiz's house after Connor "taste tests" evidence

  • "Admit it, Hank. You basically adopted me when we first met." - if Connor asks about her relationship with Hank in The Nest
  • "So CyberLife sends their newest prototype but doesn't even set him up with a place to stay? Well, aren't they just the nicest." (...) "Tell you what; I've got a spare room at my place if you want. A damn sight more comfortable than the station, I can tell you that." - after chasing Rupert

  • "Will he ever stop being an asshole?" - at the Eden Club, after Gavin leaves
  • "There’s always more kindness in the world than you might expect." - in Public Enemy if Simon is left on the rooftop and Connor interrogates the JB300s
  • "Don't you fucking shut down on me, Connor!" - in House Trauma if Connor is damaged while protecting her

  • "Dammit, Connor! I... I thought you might be someone I could love. But I guess I was wrong." - in Battle for Detroit - Connor's Last Mission if their relationship was close beforehand

Notes

  • If the chase happens in The Nest, Diana will be seen wearing a brace on her left knee in Russian Roulette, The Eden Club, and The Bridge, and Hank will comment on her knee getting bad again. A high relationship stat will get her to reveal that it is the remnants of an injury from high school that she forewent fixing in order to pay for her mother's leukemia treatments.
  • If she helps Simon escape in Public Enemy, she will have bruises on her face in House Trauma from Simon punching her in order to make her cover story seem legitimate.
  • She considers Hank a father figure, as he looked after her when she was new to the force and when her mother died. If she dies at any point, she will call Hank "dad" before dying. She will do the same if Hank dies when she is around.
  • She seems to have a fondness for rock, metal, electronic, and orchestral music.
  • In her house, she has a small shelf of physical books, likely gifts from Hank.
  • Her desk contains the following:
    • A corkboard with several photos and reminders pinned to it, including a prominent photo of herself, Erica, Hank, Cole, and her mother.
    • A desk organizer decorated with stickers for several bands of various genres, showcasing her eclectic taste in music.
    • A brightly colored stress ball, which she can be seen fidgeting with when sitting at her desk.
    • Protein/energy bars in an open box. Empty wrappers can be seen in the trash can next to the desk.
  • She seems to have taught herself at least the basics of android maintenance and repair, as she is able to repair Simon well enough for him to return to Jericho safely. She is also able to find a replacement part for Connor fairly quickly if he is damaged while protecting her.
  • The only time her relationship stat ever drops to cold is if Connor chooses to fight on the Hart Plaza Rooftop in Battle for Detroit - Connor's Last Mission.
  • Her relationship status can only progress to close if Connor asks her about Erica in House Trauma. Otherwise, it caps at friendly like with Hank.
  • If Connor has died after The Hostage, Diana can mention that his coming back made her think of Erica in either House Trauma or Battle for Detroit.
