Charlie

Charlie’s reputation tends to precede her, a status symbol in and of itself that she always strives for. Some rumors say she’s the wealthiest person in the state under 30. Others claim her “vibe” (whatever that entails) is insured for $10,000. Though these are both, as of now, unconfirmed, one thing is for certain – with her nonthreatening aura, expressive eyes and stubborn grin, it’s easy to be lured in by Charlie’s natural charm.

And she wouldn’t have it any other way.

Charlie is a lively and outgoing presence, one that’ll no doubt brighten up any drab room. She’s typically all confident smiles and casual pleasantries upon a first meeting, an air that rarely diminishes even as you get to know her. Playful jabs sweetened with teasing tones are all part of the norm for her, a way for her to let you know that she’s your best friend. You’ll trust her to have your back, won’t you?

Perhaps her most evident gift is her honeyed tongue and knack for conversation. While maybe not the most… dignified (all that formal shit is for hoity-toity losers!), Charlie undoubtedly has a talent for finding the right words for just about any social situation. She’ll weasel her way out of confrontation, talk (and bribe) her way into even the most exclusive establishments, or even gas you up like there’s no tomorrow if you’re starting to feel a little down, ‘cause no one’s sad on her watch! It’s a package deal with her, part of her endless pursuit to have a good time. No weight rests on her sun-swept shoulders for too long.

She’s more clever than she usually lets on, and more perceptive, too, especially when it comes to the emotions of others. Charlie is no stranger to picking up on more subtle cues and acting accordingly, whether said cues have much to do with her directly or not. There’s also an affirmative and uplifting side to her, even if it sometimes manifests as her enabling others to do any number of things. Is it really so bad to be so fascinated by seeing how far some people will go?

Ever the social butterfly, Charlie is at her happiest when she’s surrounded by other people. Crowds and loud environments are her jam; there’s nothing she loves more than a good party, whether it’s one of her own, someone else’s, more low-key, or an all-out rager. As long as the good stuff (read: alcohol) is flowing like milk and honey, she’s in!

Born into wealth and extreme privilege, it’s unsurprising that she boasts a lavish lifestyle full of luxury and opulence. No price tag is too great to keep her from something she wants: the world is entirely her oyster. This attitude of hers is most clearly seen through the eyes of a guest at one of the parties she regularly hosts within her expensive, mansion-like home, wild celebrations abounding with alcohol and revelry where any sense of temperance is permanently left at the door. Some call them wasteful. Charlie calls them pure fun. She simply never sees the need to limit herself or restrict herself from whatever makes her happiest, and allows her decadent hedonism to reach record heights.

This desire for fun and pleasure at every turn has turned her into someone who enjoys acting off-the-cuff, casually indulging in fleeting impulses if they have the potential to be exciting or amusing. Though not entirely unpredictable, it’s a habit she’s had since she was young, a relic of a time when her self-control ran all the more unchecked. Sometimes these impulses can be read as avoidant, and, in said cases, such an assessment would most likely be correct – Charlie does not like to face her problems (or her flaws, as much as she may deny their existence), electing to ignore them while she chooses to have fun instead. Life’s all about living in the moment! Who has time to dwell?

She’s sure of herself in thought and in action: Charlie knows she’s hot shit, and won’t let you forget it, either. This confidence she boasts has the potential to make her either a great asset to a team or an utter liability, as, even though she may not think so, she's not the most gifted with logic or book smarts, and puzzles requiring focused thinking are quick to bore her. Despite all her self-confidence, however, she prefers to play the role of a follower rather than that of leader when around new faces, enjoying the opportunity to sit back and observe while others volunteer themselves for all the heavy lifting. It’s important that she sniffs out who her friends and allies might be... then, the fun can really begin.

But don’t let yourself be fooled – Charlie is not a good person.

She’s not really your best friend. That’s just what she wants you to think.

If nothing else, she knows the people she associates with. Knows what makes them tick, knows how they’re likely to act or react, and, most importantly, how to play them right into the palm of her hand, all the while not coming off as conniving or sinister. Everyone has their uses to her, whether it’s boosting her own status, getting her out of something she doesn’t want to do, or simply being fun to mess with. Life offers little opportunity to take control, and so Charlie finds her need for it in controlling other people. She’s been doing it all her life.

Her primary concerns in life involve her own comfort and pleasures. Charlie is a person who looks out for number one, with others’ needs often falling by the wayside. Her ego is the only thing bigger than her bank account, nurtured by herself and by her sycophantic friends who yearn to stay in her good graces. She’s vain and shallow, obsessed with appearances, and thinks of herself as above other people, unafraid to judge others for their flaws and misdeeds… yet, it’s this very same near-narcissism she condemns in others. Hypocrisy aside… indeed, her honey-tongue is merely a guise for the judgmental scorn that lurks just below the surface of herself, waiting for the perfect moment to rear its ugly head.

And rear its head it will. Charlie has no qualms with speaking negatively about others behind their backs, or even showing her true colors to those she dislikes. She despises being insulted (when it’s serious, of course; she can handle a few friendly or harmless digs) and can lash out with cutting words if she feels she’s been wronged. She can leave you in the dust, but turn your back on her and she will have no mercy.

There’s little that she takes truly seriously. Why bother, when there’s no threat of consequence? Charlie thoroughly believes she’s untouchable, invincible, a mindset only fuelled by her vast wealth and high status. She possesses a narrow view of the world at large, so entrenched in her own little bubble she can’t imagine what it’s like outside of it.

Really, she might just be a monster. Don’t wait until she shows her teeth.
