Zila

Zila might be 100% griffon, but her color pattern suggests otherwise. Along with being stubborn, griffons are very superstitious, especially when it comes to Zebras, just like the ponies in Ponyville once were. When Zila was born, her parents thought her Zebra-coloring was a sign that she was cursed. They brought her to the best healers but no one was able to "fix" her. While she was still a newborn, Zila's parents thus abandoned her with the healers, wanting to be rid of such a bad omen. Word of this cursed child passed around and no one, neither pony nor griffon, wanted anything to do with the baby griffon, and she was almost left to die. Luckily word spread far enough to reach the land of the Zebras themselves, and an elder of a tribe of Zebras came to rescue her. The Zebras raised Zila like one of their own, although it was difficult at times, especially when Zila learned she could fly, but there was no one to teach her how. Zila speaks in rhyme and is very good at herbal medicine. She is not stubborn or mean like most griffon, although she is a notoriously bad flyer. When Zila reached a mature age, she tearfully decided to leave her tribe to go learn more about her true origin, which is how she ended up at Twilight's school of Friendship.
