Race info:

Zachaichians are a satyr-like folk of woodland dwellers, related to both demons and various nature spirits. They are a reclusive race and forbidden from leaving the forest they call home - those that do are exiled from their community and doomed to never return. The forest itself appears to be protected by strong magic which is cast by the tribe's oldest, their shaman leader, who in turn inherits these powers from the Gods they worship. It works by concealing their home and leading travelers astray, making them walk in circles for eternity, unless someone were to help them find their way back out... or inside. That, of course, is also forbidden though, and anyone found aiding a lost traveler in any way is promptly punished, or even exiled, as well.

They live in harmony with nature. Hunting and fishing is only permitted on special days, and their main food source is whatever the forest offers - wild vegetables, berries, nuts and the like. Alternatively, Zachaichians can also live off of grass, leafs and other plants, but they require larger amounts of those if they wish to keep their stomach full and their bodies healthy. Once every season, the Gods also receive tributes so that they may favour and protect them from the outside world again.

Zachaichians are usually skilled at crafting things, be it from wood, bones, metals, stone, or leather. While sexes are treated equal, everyone is assigned their specific role in the tribe and expected to serve it, whether that be to tend to the kids, to craft clothes, to collect food, to teach, or whatever else the shaman decides for them. Barely anyone ever questions this assignment and most are content with it. Those that dare speak up against their assigned role, however, are generally shunned by the community until they accept it.

Most Zachaichians are lightly built and fairly short, ranging from 4'2'' to 5 feet in height. Generally more or less humanoid in nature, some appear more otherworldy than others. Very common traits are horns, antlers, pointed ears, strangely coloured skin/eyes/hair (usually colours commonly found in nature though), goat tails and goat legs. Some  uncommon, or even downright rare traits include plant-like features that grow from their bodies (such as tree branches and flowers), non-goat tails (such as a wolf/fox like tail), non-human pupils, long tongues, clawed hands and animal ears.

While Zachaichians physically age at the same rate as the average human, their lifespan exceeds theirs easily. The average Zachaichian can grow as old as 200 years, but anything up to 275 and even 300 is not impossible either. Usually, Zachaichians remain rather healthy and show little signs of aging past a certain point, and obvious signs of aging (such as greying hair) are usually a good indicator that the individual is slowly nearing the end of their life.

About Vipin:

Vipin is the only child of the current shaman, Golar, and his wife Azin. As the shaman's kid, he was always destined to take his place later on and has been primed for it from a young age on. He spoke to some of the Gods first when he was but a mere child, and tho show their approval of him, Vipin was gifted with magic. It pales in comparison to what his father can do, but it was seen as a sign by others that he was worthy of being their next leader, fully establishing him as such in their community.

For the most part, Vipin is committed to his future role. He takes part in rituals, studies their history and magic and does everything in his power to learn from his family, as well as the spirits of his ancestors. Given that he is a good dancer, musician and singer and knows how to memorize rituals and spells easily, he'd be perfect for the job... if only he wasn't so damned curious.

Vipin longs deeply to see the forbidden world outside of their home, he longs to interact with the people out there, or at least those that wander into the trap that their forest is for them. However, it's forbidden, and he fears the consequences of disobeying his kind's sacred laws (and his father) too much to do much more than quietly observe travelers as they aimlessly wander. Sometimes, he even follows the border that divides their forest from the other world and glimpses outside, wondering what it's like on the other side.
