Story

Born in 1890 to a poor peasant family in Siberia, Sergei was the youngest in a family of 10, already struggling to survive in the harsh wilderness. Sergei was considered unremarkable and frail, unwilling to harm animals or defend himself from bullies. The only job he was able to perform was serving the Priest Nicetas Kurakin, at the old monastary. At first the old man seemed a relic of a begotten age, but when the young proved his bravery and dedication to righteousness, the old Priest revealed the true nature of his seminary; to hold the Holy Lance of Saint George and the Tongue of the Dragon he slew. Nicetas in his younger days was a Vampire Slayer, and his Order safeguarded Europe from evil and supernatural forces. Since those days the Order has fallen apart and only Nicetas remained with no apprentice until then. He taught young Sergei the ways of slaying evil and preserving good. With a renewed purpose, Sergei diligently studied and became a skilled Hunter.

On the Eve of the First World War, Niceta saw a terrifying vision of an evil rising in the West. He took Sergei with him to Saint Petersburg to warn the Tsar, whom the seminary owed personal loyalty. Though granted an audience, the Tsar had no idea who he was or his order and heard only the ramblings of a madman. Tossing him out of the Palace and forever banishing him, Nicetas gave into hopelessness and accepted he was no to go against the Tsar's wishes out of tradition. Sergei, however, knew something had to be done and set off on his own. He took the Lance of Saint George and the Tongue to slay the evil himself. Eventually he finds a cult group known as the Black Hand attempting to summon the Spirit of the greatest Vampire of all Time, Dracula. The Cult was able to owe the allegiance of several German Nobility, and thus risk international crisis should he assassinate them.

While Sergei was infiltrating the order, another malevolent force made itself known. A Vampire Ghoul, Orlok, also hunted the cultists, but to train their Vampire's blood. Sergei and Orlok found themselves on the same side, but when Orlok took the power of the Head Vampire, he became far stronger and fled. As WWI broke out, Sergei attempted to find Orlok and slay him once and for all, but when he failed he was forced to return to Russia to face the Revolution and Collapse, but worse to find that his master had passed while he was away. He spent the next ten years attempting to defend the Old Monastery not only from encroaching Red Army forces hoping to set any sign of the old world to the torch, he also fought against the White Army and their attempts to steal the holy items for themselves. As the civil war began to settle, and the Bolsheviks came to power, Sergei committed himself to rebuilding the order.

Recruiting people from around the world, he attempted to share what he knew of the supernatural with others who would listen and keep the oath to never use their knowledge to harm others. By the beginning of WWII, he had a small order from around the world who he had led against Vampires and other supernatural creatures. When the war initially broke out, Sergei committed himself to staying neutral, but when the German invaders began to ravage the Russian countryside, it became clear to him that a Vampire was amongst their ranks. The Soviet Authorities officially recognized him and allowed him resources to fight the Vampire threat. His order was brought into the Red Army and together they fought the Nazi and Vampire forces.

While fighting the super natural forces, Sergei found that it was Orlok that was at the center of the German war machine. Orlok had been using the Nazis to create more Vampire Ghouls, as well as tracking down more powerful Vampires to absorb. While attacking deep into occupied territory, Sergei found what Orlok's ultimate plan was; Operation Impaler. The military operation was designed to turn the entire German Army into a Vampire Horde which would overrun first Europe, and then the world. Sergei lays siege to Orlok's Castle at the last minute to stop his plan, however just before Sergei can stake him, he is stopped by one of his Apprentices, a young French Radical named Marianne. They need Orlok alive, and she forces Sergei to chain the Vampire instead.

As the war comes to a close, Sergei finds the world in far greater danger than before, and that evil forces still lurk deep in the world. He is forced to both cooperate with both the Soviet State and Orlok, taking his Apprentices and are creating the Special Bureau for Paranormal Investigations. He attempts to stop the evil from threatening the world, but as he grows old he sees Orlok taking more and more control of his order. The Special Bureau also finds use for other supernatural beasts it can recruit, including Freidrich Wolfenwarder.

As the Bureau becomes more powerful and sophisticated, Orlok's power grows and soon the Vampire is in a position to enact a sequel to his WWII crisis, Operation Impaler II. Sergei is finally killed by Orlok just as he learned of his treachery and is no longer in control. Though killed in betrayal, his legacy lives on in Marianne who takes the last relic of Sergei to fight and kill Orlok.
