It's clear when looking at James that part of Hideki's personality has stemmed from him; he is a kind, positive and helpful person who exudes that aura to those around him and is always eager to offer a hand to those in need. Unlike his nephew though, he does not wear his heart on his sleeve, instead opting to keep up a happy expression even if he's not at his best. He does his best to be a pillar of support to those around him, especially if they seem like they need someone to lean on for the moment. Due to his proud personality and his independence, he has a hard time allowing himself to lean on other people for support even if he needs it—at the same time, he finds it hard to ask for help from those around him.

Although James has settled down, he is adventurous at heart, and it's hard for him to say no to new experiences that seem exciting and fun, even if it's something simple like a new place to eat at, or going hiking on a mountain for two weeks. He still lives like he's 20 and has his whole life ahead of him—and really at his late 40s, he still does, so he enjoys taking the moment by the horns and seeing where it leads him.

James is extroverted regardless of who he's with, but around friends and family he becomes especially chatty to the point where sometimes he overshadows the other people talking. He's somewhat good at noticing when he does, though, and can quickly switch to just listening to someone. Regardless if it's a serious moment or someone is venting to him, he will stay quiet and listen attentively, only offering advice or support when needed. He is open to offering all kinds of support and reassurance: emotional, through advice, or simple affection if need be.

Deep inside, James does have some insecurities, mostly regarding losing his sense of purpose or his love for excitement, as well as being alone in the end. His own son has grown up, his ex-wife is back in America, and Hideki is growing up and has his own life, so sometimes he's scared of the loneliness that might come with having an empty house and no one to turn to. Thankfully, he knows there's always some family nearby he can call and talk to.

Although he seems like he has himself together, emotion drives James, and in any situation where he becomes extremely stressed, he shuts down or panics rather than switching to a logical approach to work through it. Said situations are rare and far in between, and may only occur in dire situations such as someone getting injured badly, or him being stuck in a situation where he's isolated and unable to reach out to anyone for help.

James is also a type of person who likes knowing as much as possible about everything around him, and may often stick his nose in where it doesn't belong. He's a huge gossip at heart, and he latches to it—sometimes he's found himself offering help to someone just to get more details about something that's happening; the offer to help is genuine, but it's also to fulfill that desire in him. If someone doesn't want to talk further about something, though, he won't pry beyond that.

To summarize it, he's a kind man who doesn't like seeing those around him hurting and will always offer help to those who seem like they need it; he does have a tendency to poke his nose into other people's business and latches onto it, but does respect boundaries if he's asked to step back. He is a person who will always be willing to go onto adventures and explore new places if asked, and he enjoys bringing along people with him to experience it as well. Emotions drive James, even if he does not show it outright, and although he deals with stress well, overwhelming situations will shut him down. Big Dad, he loves his family a lot and will do anything for them.

James King, ex-latin dancer, suave café owner, and a man who definitely does not show his age outside the wrinkles giving him away and the incoming grey hairs. James is Canadian-born with half of his heritage coming from Romania, now living in Japan in hopes to reconnect with his brother, which led to him meeting and taking in his nephew as if he was his own son. He is a man who has seen many things in his life ... and got himself into many things in his teenage years that would make his parents highly ashamed; now he has settled down with his own cafe and with just keeping a balance to his life though he occasionally still seeks out adventures that give him new scenery to enjoy or a way to push himself. Hiking and exploring new cities is something that James will always enjoy and he loves being pulled along to outings by the people he knows.

At the moment, James is teaching his nephew to manage the café and looking around to see if anyone would be interested in taking up the mantle; he wishes to start teaching Latin dancing classes; dancing to him fills him with life, and he wishes to pursue that love once more.

Childhood

• Family of 5, mom, dad, him and 2 siblings; he was the middle child.
• They were pretty close, mom and dad were somewhat strict but also loving parents.
• Upper class family but it hadn't gotten to his parents heads nor were the kids grown up with a silver spoon in their mouth.
• There was some pressure put on his older brother ( Christopher ) to succeed and to make a good path in his life.
• Little sister ( Eva ) was coddled a bit -- James blended in a bit more and he wasn't at the center of attention from his parents, but he was relatively okay with that.
• Rambunctious kid, liked exploring and ended up getting injured and scuffled multiple times. Was also active and into sports and moving around.
• Creative at a young age, he liked working with his hands and doing crafts.
• Helped mom around the house and his parents with cooking since they did cooking on their own.
• Did try to cut his own hair when he was little, he did a fucking awful job at it and got scolded but he persisted. Eventually his mom taught him how to carefully and properly trim his own hair if he wanted to do it that badly.
• Though his parents did have rough spots in their relationship with disagreements, they always seemed to work it out in the end.
• Nearly drowned in a lake by accident when he was out on a small boat trip with his family, which is what ended up forming his phobia of drowning and a fear of large bodies of water in general. He is fine with shallow water and bathtubs ( sometimes he gets panicked thinking he may drown in one but it comes and goes ), but deep and/or large bodies of water scare him.

Teenage Years

• Joined soccer team in high school.
• Was good at most of his classes through the years, excelled at his home economics class, skimmed in biology/chemistry classes in the beginning.
• He skipped quite a few classes to hang out with friends, at one point his parents gave up on chastising him for that since he still excelled in his classes.

University

• In university for a medical degree (still unsure on what exactly) but he’s not too interested in it; mostly pressured by his parents to go in.
• Has attended some dance classes during this period in his spare time.
• Does okay in classes but he doesn’t care too much so he parties a lot.
• Like, literally his university life is pretty wild – he’s drunk himself to the point of blacking out, smoked marijuana/done a few other drugs, did figure himself out sexually during it, just did a lot of stupid shit w/friends.
• Relatively similar personality in the aspect of him being very optimistic and fun to be around but he does not know how to say No to fun-sounding moments and has shit self-control – he still tries to stay as safe as possible tho.
• Eventually he drops out after the second year (his parents are anything but happy to hear it) and it’s through contacts in university that he gets into dancing.
• He had soccer and learning to dance as a hobby during this period of time.
• Had a friends-with-benefits thing going on with Alfred back then, but with him dropping his university classes, he had lost contact at that time.
• He does partially regret dropping it, but he also wouldn’t give up his dance career for anything.

Adult / Dance Career

• Lived in the Dominican Republic & Cuba for 3-4 years to learn the culture, dances, and to volunteer around there.
• Met his wife during this time and although it took a while, they fell for each other; it was a slow burn that went from friends, to dancing partners, to lovers.
• They became known in America for their dancing competitions, and in other countries where they went.
• They ended up having a son which forced them to stop their dancing career, it also started to bring out the incompatibility between him and his wife.
• James did genuinely love her, and she him, but they couldn't manage to make it work despite couple's therapy. They had an amicable divorce; the two still keep in contact.

Current

• Owner of Cafe Latte which he wishes to pass down to Hideki eventually.
• Pretty settled in his life; retired from dancing almost a decade ago.
• Divorced from his wife, who is back in America.
• On the side, he teaches dance lessons while running the cafe.

• He owns Hideki's dog which is a Husky, now around five years of age.
• James usually always has a story to share from his past, his college days were busy and he has quite a few stories from when he used to frequently travel.
• He used to be a national dancer back in North America (and occasionally in South America) along with his wife, he's won a handful of gold medals and a lot more silvers and bronzes.
• A flexible™ dude who loves yoga and yoga pants too much for his own damn good. You're fourty, James, chill.
• Keeps in contact with his ex-wife and son, talking to them almost every day if possible, if not for sure on the weekends.
• He can understand Spanish and Romanian well, but is rusty in talking. Likewise, he is still studying Japanese with his nephew's help.
• His Romanian heritage comes from his dad's side, who moved to Canada and met his mother there, and as such James was born in Canada.
• He does have some deep rooted insecurities with dating and such after his divorce, and so it's been pretty much shelved to opt for living his life and being there for his already present family.
