Morghul the First was born as Ethan Averdeen, second-born son to Lady Aldith Averdeen and her husband, Ned Abraham. He is known in Nouvish history to have freed the country (temporarily) from the rebellion's grasp, being a Valar spirit holder, and sacrificing his life to save Queen Victoria Chevalier.
Ethan was a wild, uncontrollable, and free child in his youth. He would often disobey his parents; doing anything but his chores around The Gardens like roaming through the forest pretending to be a knight. His older brother, Amos Averdeen, was the more "controlled" one of the two as they were polar opposites of each other. In fact, the two brothers didn't get along at all. Ethan would mercilessly tease his brother about any topic he could think of, like his love for reading or his known crush on Princess Victoria Chevalier.
The Averdeens are a religious family, but Ethan was anything but that. When he turned sixteen, he was confirmed to be the next Valar spirit holder which was a surprise to everybody, who expected Amos instead. He took pride in this (despite not being religious whatsoever) and even dyed his naturally chestnut hair into a "red-and-white" depicting Valar. His parents had enough of his recklessness, and Ethan moved on- changing his name to "Morghul the First" and leaving his family and quiet life behind.
Morghul was a travelling mercenary when he met the infamous Hroar Bolton, who was impressed with him. He offered a place among his ranks, should Morghul accept- and he did. He made the dictating lord proud and Morghul was happy to serve, that was, until he met Princess Victoria in person many years later. He was morally against the crown, but found himself bewitched by her. The woman that was his enemy's daughter made him question his place among the rebellion ranks, and Hroar was angered by this. When Hroar asked Morghul to kill her and her fiance, Prince Francisco Buchanan, to prove his loyalty- Morghul refused. Hroar had him sent off into the Lost Woods where he would "go mad or starve first". After countless hours, he stumbled upon an old Red Vaher Tree with a many-eyed Crow sitting on top of it. He asked the crow for guidance on how to return and "fix what he let happen", and he was given the answer. Morghul found his way out and headed towards the now blood-stained Capital.
When he reached the throne room, he found Hroar over the body of King Niklas Chevalier as Victoria and Francisco lay aside, dying. Hroar asked Morghul if he thought himself a hero, and Morghul disagreed. Running out of time, he rescued the two nobles and brought them back to the Vaher tree, where he gave his mortal life to the dying Victoria. The remainder of his soul was turned into a Hawk, who rumor has it, roams through the Lost Woods even decades later.
In Nouvish history, Morghul is considered a hero despite his backstory. Some disagree and call him for what he was; a rebel who fell in love with a princess.
