Austin is considered legally disabled due to being unable to fly unlike most Bat kenomimi/demi-humans. Through out his life, this has been a major insecurity for him, as he grew up watching as his younger brother was capable of doing most of the tasks required around the farm, whilst he was stuck on the ground, also dealing with the disadvantages of being a bat kenomimi, unable to see well in the daylight without sunglasses. Fortunately, this led to him having more free time, and to discover his love for poetry, and the goth subculture.

He comes off a arrogant to most people, as he looks down upon those whom he considers 'posers' despite being new to the subculture himself. But in truth, he is deeply insecure and uses poetry and taking part in the goth subculture to try and take on some form of control in his life. He doesn't have many friends either as he tends to either intimidate or creep people out or push them away with how he acts. To see him smile is a rarity as he has the mindset that Goths have to be unsettling and act sad all the time (As I mentioned, he is still new to the Goth subculture. This is untrue.). He also tends to be quite sarcastic, he's the type to go 'Wow... that's crazy' when someone yaps at him about something he doesn't really care about.
