RED MOON RISING

STATUS:

ACTIVE.

Bellsong was born to a litter of four in a quiant countryside cottage. He grew up as almost any cat did, safe with a mother and an old but enthusiastic twoleg family. After a few moons he was selected from the litter and brought to a new home. He was named Benjamin.

Benjamin’s new owners, an older woman and her late son, adored him. He was bought by the son as a birthday present for his mother, as a companion for her when he was off on business trips. Benjamin warmed up to his twolegs rather quickly, putting the old cottage and other kits aside for a life he knew couldn’t be happier.

He was given fresh food, endless love, cat trees and scratching posts, a soft bed by the fireplace, and most importantly… access to the outside world.

From the very first day he was let out into twolegplace, Benjamin found himself spellbound by the tales of a clan of wild cats residing in the nearby gorge. He asked every cat he came upon about them, soaking in every last detail. And eventually, he set off to join them. To his surprise, SkyClan welcomed him with little restraint. Benjamin quickly learned of the daylight warrior system and opted in, not quite keen on leaving his housefolk just yet. The very thought of being in the wild his entire life made him uneasy. Benjamin, given the name Bellsong, was given warrior training and quickly earned respect from his clanmates through his enthusiasm, dedication, and wit. He volunteered for countless patrols, spent days at a time out hunting, and helped train apprentices. This all gave the tom quite an ego— many came to suspect he had something to prove.

And that he did. At least in his mind. Even if SkyClan did welcome him and the other daylight warriors, Bellsong struggled with a sense of inferiority. Was he, as a house cat, as dependable and respected as the full time warriors? What would happen if his housefolk stopped letting him out? These questions haunted his mind as he returned to twolegplace every night. It didn’t help that his dedication to SkyClan had brought him an interest in the deputy council. It also didn’t help that, one night, Bellsong had decided to stay— while guarding the camp, he was the first to see hungry coyotes preparing to pounce on the unsuspecting cats. He raced into camp, warning everyone of the attack. Chaos ensued.

In the heat of battle, a deputy was killed while defending the nursery. The rest of the council was occupied, along with many warriors; so Bellsong rallied the apprentices and queens and successfully chased one of the coyotes out. Eventually, the others followed. SkyClan was safe, but one deputy short. However, the leader was quick to hear of the line of defense for the nursery from the queens. In respect of Bellsong’s bravery and quick thinking, the warrior was promoted in the fallen deputy’s place. Bellsong was beyond thankful— and beyond terrified. Had there ever been a daylight deputy? What would happen if he was chosen as leader? He still refused to leave his housefolk, stubbornly acknowledging the possible consequences. He accepted the possibilities, even if he didn’t want to believe they were an option. He was one of SkyClan; he would be a trustworthy deputy no matter what.
