Created by the Dakuma clan like all their demons, he was created to be partnered with one of the clan members. Specifically Atlus. Before creating a contract they had a chance to bond and understand one another and it turns out Zekal didn't like the idea of stealing something from humans, and in fact hated his existence. He later helped Atlus free the angels and with Nix they all formed a promise.
