When he was younger he originally had big wings and he used to be able to fly around but one day he thought " i dont deserve these " and he ripped them off 

When hes depressed as heck the roses on his thighs just fall off ((they do grow back though))

He was originally not as dark as he is, he used to be a happy boye but someone had broke his heart and he was never really able to recover from that
