History

Ziph, like all Kenku, was treated as a non-entity at best, and an animal at worst. Because of this he took to pickpocketing for coin, and lying to get what he needed. He stole from humans, dwarves, and elves preferentially. Which, at first was just out of spite for their treatment. However, as he became more skilled, it quickly evolved from that, into a cruel joy at the chaos he could cause.

Meeting the Party

'Rouge Fishing' The idea that Adventuring or Questing parties sometimes purposefully carried around large amounts of gold, or even rarer valuables, to attract thieves and the like so they could 'recruit' them into their group. Ziph was aware of this cocept. But had never experianced it, nor thought it was true- Until it happened to him. At first he was furious, but quickly became intrigued. First, one of its members was one of the fish-men from the sea, a strange sight on its own. Then, there was the small size of the group. There were only two. A Gnome, named Felgrem Glittergem, and Atagul (the fish-man). Even more curious, Ziph was discovered that Atagul was the leader in their expidition and not the Gnome like Ziph had expected.

Atagul was polite enough to at least try and bribe Ziph first before threatening him. What he offered was pretty standard, wealth and power. But, the method was unusual. Atagul didn't give too much information, but it sounded like he was planning on contacting some inter-planar entity or some other similar method to gain the latter. Ziph didn't respond right away, but eventually willingly agreed. It sounded interesting.

After Ziph joined, they traveled to a nearby forest and began wandering through it. They ventured deep into it, finding a Centaur who went by 'Jangles' thanks to the broken chains on his legs. Apparently he was known for being a sort of Monsterous-Protector of the woods. It took some persuading, but he agreed to join them as well. [I forget where in this we picked up Luv, our Bugbear. I'm also a little unsure about the order, just that Atagul was the one collecting everyone XD]

Getting Hired

It took a long while, but eventually they came to a sort of 'clearing'. This was where Atagul contacted what would become their 'Patron' or 'Employer. Like Atagul had claimed, this interplanar...entity promised them great power. But, only if they completed several tasks for him, which ended up looking like a glorified grocery list:

-Unicorn Hair
-Scale of a Quatl
-20 Blink-Dog Eyes
-12 Pixie Wings
-Blood of an Island Turtle
-Hydra’s Stomach Acid
-A Ki-Rin’s Horn
-Naga Fangs
-Treeant Bark
-Pegasus Wing Bones
-An Angel Feather

They quickly accept the offer, and immediately head out to look for the first thing on the list. Or, rather, information on where to find anything on said list.

The SQUIRREL ARMY

Upon arriving at a relatively large merchant town, the party split up to go looking for information and aquiring goods. Felgrem headed to the library, like he always does, Atagul went to browse the shops, and Jangles went to the forest. Ziph initially followed Atagul. But, quickly grew bored and went searching out Jangles outside of the town. The chain of events that followed Ziph found particularly delightful.

Jangles had gone to speak to the wildlife outside the town to see if any of them were aware of the location of any creatures they were searching for. A few of them were quite useful in this regard, particularly the birds, who warned him that she squirrels in the area were, well, a bit nutty. It wasn't long before Jangles came across one of these squirrels, who proceeded to very eagerly ask the following question, and variants of it, repeatedly:
"IS IT TIME FOR THE REVOLUTION?! The uprising against the humans! YES! IS IT TIME?"

Jangles shrugged the question off, replying with a rather flat "Uh..Sure, whatever, buddy." before wandering further into the woods to inquire more animals about the list. The squirrel, meanwhile, skitters away, celebrating quite loudly, yelling as he rushes off into the woods:
"THE TIME HAS COME! THE TIME HAS COME! LET THE REBELLION START! THE TIME HAS COME!"

About an hour later, the squirrel returns...along with hundreds of others. Just like in the forest, he is yelling at the top of his squeaky squirrel-voice:
"FOLLOW ME! FOLLOW ME! THE REVOLUTION IS AT HAND! THE TIME HAS COME FOR US TO OVERTHROW THE HUMANS!"
The squirrels then storm the walls of the town, attacking the (EXTREMELY) surprised guards, and flooding the streets on the inside. Ziph watches from the outside, with Jangles, as the town proceeds to be set on fire, hear people screaming, and see several of them through the gate trying to flee.

Eventually, it 'settles down' and the squirrels allow Jangles inside, and the rest of the group with some persuasion. Ziph quickly begins looting the bodies of the people the squirrels have killed, and several of the buildings. After this, the party leaves. Ziph and the others hear later that the squirrels did not just stop at that town and moved on to others as well, only being recently stopped after flooding about three.

A Bigger Boat

The plan was nice, simple, and could've been done quickly and quitely. What actually happened, was none of these things. The party arrived in a town, and required a bigger boat to get to the next island. So, Atagul came up with a plan. Ziph would steal some Navigator's Tools from the town shop, and Glittergem would set a fire as a distraction so everyone could escape on the boat. This was Atagul's plan. Ziph did steal the Navigator's Tools- Along with all of the shop's money, some ink and parchment to make forgeries, and as an entire barrel of spears for Jangles. Glittergem did set a fire for their escape. But instead of being the small to medium fire like Atagul intended- the entire town started to burn, thanks to Glittergem using an entire barrel of fish-oil. When Atagul approached the two about what happened, both Ziph and Glittergem's response was: "We're just overachievers!"

The Isle of Pack and Pride

The Isle of Pack and Pride, an island that is split down the middle between the Displacer Beasts, and the Blink Dogs. Both groups are constantly fighting to try and take over the island, though no one really knows why. The fighting is fierce enough, that there are no settlements on the island. But, it is the only island with Blink Dogs, so the party had to head there to get the twenty eyes they needed.

Ziph and the others left Delilah and the crew members on the boat, with the cart, as they went to find the Blink Dogs that lived somewhere on the island. Before they could get far, three Displacer Beasts slinked out of the jungle-like woods that lined the shore. They crouched in front of the party, ready to pounce. Displacer Beasts, like the Blink Dogs, are sentient. As such, the group tried to explain to the Beasts why they were there. Finally, Ziph, rather bluntly, just spat out that they were there to kill the Blink Dogs and take twenty of their eyes. The three Displacer Beasts stared at the party, then at eachother for a moment, then lead them deep into the jungle. As they followed, the Beasts wove in out of the thick woods without any problems, though it slowed Ziph and the others quite a bit. Eventually, they came to a clearing, and near a giant tree was an equally huge Displacer Beast, surrounded by an entire pride of smaller ones.

The party repeated themselves, telling the apparent leader of the pride what their plan was. Surprisingly, it spoke back to them using telepathy. It was condecending, at first telling them to leave, and repeatedly referred to them as 'Foolish Food' and other similar things. Eventually, the leader offered them a choice. They would be allowed to live, and to assist in killing the Blink Dogs on the island if they could knock out (but not kill, if they killed even one then that would be 'very bad') four of the pride. If they failed, then they would be attacked, killed, and eaten. The party agreed to the deal, they needed the eyes.

The fight was difficult, but they managed the challenge and a plan was formed. The party would be tasked with going after the leader of the Blink Dogs, a giant one much like the giant Displacer Beast in front of them. Meanwhile, the pride would go after the rest of the pack. Whenever the pack's alpha fell, the rest of the Blink Dogs would become stunned, and would quickly be taken care of. But first, they would all rest.

The next day then ventured to the half of the island that the Blink Dogs had claimed as their own. The party stealthed past the several guard parties, and the Displacer Beasts attacked the pack, allowing Ziph and the others to approach and fight the Blink Dog's alpha. Just like the four Displacer Beasts from the previous day, the battle was difficult. During the fight a few smaller Blink Dogs joined in, trying to protect their leader. However, they all fell as well, giving the party more than enough eyes to give to their Patron.

After a bit of discussion, everyone decided that they probably couldn't dissect the eyes on their own without damaging them. So, Glittergem allowed himself to be possessed again. Their Employer happily greeted them, just like the previous times they had spoken. Jangles asked if they needed to remove the eyes, or if presenting him with the heads was enough. Their Patron excitedly said that they were fine as is, and freakishly sucked all the eyeballs out of the heads, using Glittergem's mouth as a vaccum. Afterwards, also like the previous times they had completed something on the checklist, he sprayed them with rainbow vomit and left.

Task complete, they left the clearing with Jangles dragging along the giant Blink Dog's corpse to show the Displacer Beasts. When they arrived at the battleground, all of the Blink Dogs were dead, and a rift was opening in the ground. Many smaller Displacer Beasts crawled out of it, along with several of the massive ones like the leader of the Beast's pride. They offered the corpse as a gift, it was declined, the leader saying they could keep it to remember the battle.Ziph tried to convince at least one of the Displacer Beasts to come with them and aide them on their expidition, explaining to them that they were on a quest to destroy the Blink Dog's allies as well. However, this was also declined, the leader claiming that any one of the members of his pride was better than any one of them. He did, however, wish them luck on their journey and on their future battles.

They returned to their ship, where they found Delilah brandishing a rolling pin, and more than a couple Blink Dog corpses strewn about. She quickly began berating Luv for 'leaving his delicate wife' and making side commentary to the rest of the group as she did so. Delilah also complained about how spineless the sailors were before saying, 'But I did find this thing hiding aboard, I bet I could cook it up if ya'd like' and holding up what appears to be a Displacer Beast kitten. Ziph quickly steals it out of her hands, Delilah making a remark about 'A bird eatin' a cat? Now isn't that strange.' as he skitters of. During their return trip, Ziph spends quite a bit of his time trying to communicate with the kitten, along with holding it up to Glittergem's face and telling it to "never drink anything he may give to you".

Ziph also eventually named the Displacer Kitten 'Mewl' after the first sound he heard it make.

Through a Wall and Through a Window

They returned back to the dwarven city, and began scouring the area for more information on their list. The three remaining sailors, grabbed their pay, and quickly fled. Atagul spent his time getting supplies, and scheduling the ship to be repaired. After awhile, Ziph and Jangles decided that letting the sailors leave...was probably a bad idea. They had dealt with that issue previously, and it had been quite a problem. The two asked Delilah the direction they went. Her first response was indignation that they didn't mention to her that they wanted them dead.
"I coulda poisoned their last meal, afterall!"
But, she did inform them that she made the sailors some nice little medallions before they left. So, they should go looking for those if nothing else. Ziph and Jangles then trolled in the most likely places sailors returning from a trip would go, the red-light district, and the taverns.

The first they found quite easily, in the red-light district with a woman. Ziph stuck to the shadows, and a high perch, and shot the man once. Jangles ran by, slashing him before Ziph shot again. The sailor quickly died, and they also picked off the woman he had been with. They removed the medallion, and Jangels went to deal with the two fresh bodies while Ziph continued to search for the remaining two.

Ziph did not find the two remaining sailors directly. Instead, when he was searching a tavern, he a group talking about how the story that two men had told them earlier couldn't be true, and that there was no one crazy enough to go to The Isle of Pack and Pride, let alone fight the Displacer Beasts or Blink Dogs on the island. Ziph quickly slipped over, making sure he was hidden beneath his cloak, and mimicked some other random patron in the tavern at the time. He inquired about the men, and was almost discovered when it turned out who he was mimicking was someone who had heard the tale already. Ziph quickly recovered, though, explaining that he wanted to ask them more questions, discovering the sailors had rented a room for the night just upstairs.

Ziph waited outside for Jangles to find him. When Jangles arrived, he quickly explained what he had discovered, pointing to the second floor of the inn. But, also said he wasn't sure which room they were in. Jangles asked if Ziph was confident enough that he could find them if he could get to the second story from the outside. He was quite confident, even puffing out a little as he proudly said so. Jangles then picked him up suddenly, and chucked him towards the roof.
...this did not go well.

Ziph crashed through one of the windows, scaring a rather startled spell-caster of some description. Pointing a staff at Ziph, he threatened to turn him into a newt if he didn't leave, which Ziph was happy to do. Outside in the hall, a barmaid came up the stairs trying to shoo Ziph off with a broom, smacking him repeatedly. Both of them jumped back as there was another, much larger, CRASH from one of the rooms farther down the hall. This was immediately followed by more loud crashing and the tennants of the room yelling, and a horse of all things charging out of the room, breaking the door, and almost trampling both Ziph and the barmaid.

Ziph quickly dashed down the hall to examine the room, pleasantly surprised that the tennants happened to be the two remaining sailors. Both of them were in terrible condition, thanks to being mostly trampled by a sudden window-horse. Ziph quickly shot one of them in the head, instantly killing him. He was then shocked to find Jangles pulling himself up through the hole in the wall the horse had caused, and crushing the other sailor with his weight. Hurriedly, they collected these sailor's medallions as well. Jangles then charged down the stairs, and down the streets. Ziph took the opportunity to stay on the second story as he fled, hiding amongst the rooftops and shadows as he headed back for the ship.

(Get back: Delilah had 'recruited' some new crew for the ship, and things are pretty much ready to set-sail again)

Atagul

[ Co-Party Member? (PC) ] Ziph is usually on his best behaviour when Atagul is around. That isn't to say he never causes trouble. But, he respects that Atagul has a head on his shoulders, and is good at planning. That, and Atagul was the one who 'hired' him, and the threat of being turned in isn't really appealing. The latter reason of this sentiment is slowly withering away, however. As Atagul, like most of the other Party Members, is gaining quite the reputation.

IMG URL

Felgrem Glittergem

[ Co-Party Member (PC) ] Ziph will never truly trust Glittergem. Ever. The gnome creates these strange concoctions that do everything from enlarge someone's eyeballs, turning something pink, to straight up killing someone, or creating explosions. He enjoys watching the after-effects of Glittergem's work, but he refuses to be a part of it, at least, not directly. He does appreciate that, though he's a Gnome, he treats Ziph as a sentient being.

IMG URL

Jangles

[ Co-Party Member (PC) ] Ziph appreciates that Jangles is strong, very strong. Together, they can cause quite a bit of damage, and often have similar views on what needs to be done next, usually to the pain of someone else. However, Jangles does not like how Ziph's decisions and actions don't always have consistency.

IMG URL

Luv

[ Co-Party Member (PC) ] Ziph gets the most frustrated with Luv. As a bugbear, Luv is not particularly bright, and has caused a few problems by just smashing what was in front of him. Granted, he's also acted as a shield and distraction for Ziph, and that smashing has sometimes turned out to be a good thing. So, he's not that bad.

IMG URL

Delilah

[ ??? (NPC) ] Delilah, the dwarven wife that Luv picked up in a drinking contest. Ziph is very happy to have her around. She is not only useful, but hilarious. At first, Ziph was wary of her like everyone else. But, it has become quite apparent that she isn't going to be a problem and, in fact, will be quite useful. She has volunteered to poison sailors for acting out, identify ones that escaped, killed several Blink Dogs during the Island incident, and has even been keeping Luv out of...too much trouble. Ziph very much appreciates all of this.

IMG URL

Mewl

[ Family??? ] A Displacer Beast kitten that snuck aboard their ship. Delilah caught it, and offered to cook it for the group. Ziph stole it and is now raising/taking care of it. It is sentient, so the biggest issue so far is that the kitten has a limited vocabulary and thus cannot understand everything it is told. That, and it cannot speak any standard language. Ziph is planning on trying to figure out how to understand the Displacer Beasts' language. He named it using the Kenku tradition of naming their children after the first sound they make.
