Profile
Xavier
"I know I'm a 'good' man, but to be honest with you, I don't care. I'm the man my kids need me to be, and that's the only thing that matters."
Xavier is a young man from the Canadian prairies of Saskatchewan. A wheat farmer and one of the few caretakers at Stillwater Farm (also an orphanage), his life and afterlife are shaped by his pragmatic, responsible, and caring nature. Beneath a stoic exterior and a dry sense of humor lies a man grappling with a profound savior complex, driven to protect the children in his care at any and all costs. Unimpressed by the theatricality of his new companions in the afterlife, he remains grounded, focused only on the practical steps needed to get back to the home he fought so hard to build.
An orphan himself, Xavier's childhood was shattered by a tragic car crash involving his mother, leading to his father's imprisonment and his own placement in the system. Unable to bond with multiple adoptive parents, he dedicated his adult life to the orphanage he grew up in, working tirelessly to make it a self-sufficient sanctuary. This dedication, however, morphed into a controlling need to be the children's sole protector, leading him to reject all applications, ranging from good adoptive parents to unspeakable offers from despicable people. His paranoia and desperation culminated in a series of tragic events: turning away a hitch-hiker named Mehira, whom he suspected of being an investigator in disguise, and then accidentally killing her with his scythe as her clothes blended in with the wheat fields. The grim choice he made to sell her remains, all in the name of funding the orphanage, led to his own death by electrocution (not by the electric chair, I don't know how he died, I just know he was electricuted). Now a lost soul in the strange world of Andara, his singular focus is on finding a way back to the only family he's ever known.
Design Notes:
Xavier's hands are calloused and he has a number of small scars from a life of manual labor. He has a grounded, steady presence and a rural Saskatchewan accent.

Personality
General Personality
Xavier has a stoic, pragmatic, and down-to-earth exterior. Unimpressed by theatricality, he focuses on practical solutions and getting the job done. He is good-natured and, beneath his no-nonsense facade, possesses a deep well of patience and kindness, a dry wit, and acts as a natural mediator. He is a duteous and selfless person, driven by a powerful sense of responsibility. However, this dedication to what he believes is right manifests as a rigid, controlling, and dogmatic savior complex.
Strengths
Responsible, Pragmatic, Caring, Duteous, Patient, Hard-Working, Grounded, Protective, Honest (in his own way), Good Mediator, Self-Sufficient.
Weaknesses
Savior Complex, Dogmatic, Controlling, Paranoid (especially of authority), Emotionally Repressed, Lack of street smarts, Stubborn, Prone to black-and-white thinking.
Beliefs
The ends justify the means when it comes to protecting his family. The world outside of stillwater farm is a dangerous and full of predators. A community must be self-sufficient and look after its own. Hard work and practicality are the highest virtues. Authority is inherently untrustworthy. A promise is an unbreakable contract.
Sense of Humor
Xavier possesses a very dry, deadpan wit. His humor is often observational, pointing out the absurdity of a situation in a completely straight-faced manner.
Reputation
To the children, he is their steadfast protector, the unshakeable center of their world. To outsiders like Plushfri, he's a handsome but frustratingly practical man. To an enemy, he is a dangerous, manipulative monster convinced of his own righteousness.

Knowledge is only valuable if it is practical and can be applied to solve a real-world problem. Abstract concepts are generally a waste of time.
Ethics of Society
A community's highest moral calling is to protect its own. Loyalty and mutual responsibility are paramount, and outside authority is inherently corrupt and untrustworthy.

Self-sufficiency, hard work, responsibility, and duty.

Work is a lifestyle. Money is simply a tool, a means to an end to provide for the community. His lifestyle is simple, unadorned, and entirely focused on what is necessary for survival and the well-being of the orphanage.
Living/Bedroom
A sturdy bed, a single desk for paperwork, and tools for repairs. Everything is clean, organized, and serves a purpose. There are a few sentimental decorations.
Writing/Texting Style
Brief, to the point, and devoid of any unnecessary pleasantries or emojis.
Speech
Speaks with a rural Saskatchewan accent. His speech is direct, practical, and uses straightforward language, punctuated by folksy sayings like "For Pete's sake."

Character Rounding/Consistency Check
Xavier's core is his savior complex, born from trauma. All actions, from his kindness to the kids to his most horrific deeds, are filtered through this lens. His pragmatism is not an absence of emotion, but a tool to suppress it in the name of his duty.

Skills
Farming & Husbandry
Years of working the land and tending to animals has given Xavier an almost instinctual knowledge of agriculture. He can read the weather, diagnose sick animals, grow crops in harsh conditions, and manage a self-sufficient homestead.
Practical Engineering & Repair
From taking apart a tractor engine to mending a fence or patching a leaky roof, Xavier is adept at fixing what is broken. He has a mind for mechanics and can often find a practical solution to any physical problem with the tools at hand.
Child Rearing & Mediation
Despite his controlling nature, Xavier possesses a deep well of patience for children. He knows how to calm a toddler's tantrum, talk a teenager down from a bad decision, and mediate disputes. In Andara, this skill makes him the mediator between Plushfri, Mehira, and Scythe.

Story
Past
Xavier's life was forged in tragedy and responsibility. After his mother was killed and his father imprisoned following a car crash over his custody, he was placed in an orphanage in rural Saskatchewan. Unable to form bonds with potential adoptive parents, he instead poured his entire being into the orphanage itself. As a young man, he took on the role of caretaker, working the adjacent farmland to make the home self-sufficient. This immense responsibility fostered a powerful savior complex, leading him to believe he was the only person who could truly protect the children. His paranoia of the outside world and its authorities grew. He rejected all adoption applications, from parents with genuinely good hearts to despicable monsters with horrible intentions. Xavier was effectively trapping the children in his care.
This isolation reached a breaking point when a homeless woman named Mehira came to his door. Fearing she was an investigator in disguise, he turned her away. The next day, she slept in the wehat field and he accidentally decapitated her with his scythe while harvesting wheat. Rather than grieving, Xavier made the grim, pragmatic choice to dismember and sell her remains to further fund the orphanage, an act that solidified his belief that any sacrifice was justified for the "greater good." This chain of events culminated in his own death when the cyber-angel Rene (aka Scythe), possessing Mehira at the time, unleashed an electrical output that electrocuted Xavier to death.
Present
Xavier's soul was pulled from the void by Plushfri, a grieving god who deluded himself into beliveing that Xavier was his deceased partner, Maestro. Now trapped in the chaotic world of Andara, Xavier's existence is a constant struggle. His primary goal is to find a way back to his orphanage, a goal subtly thwarted by Plushfri, who fears being abandoned again. Xavier spends his days as the unwilling, exasperated mediator between the flamboyant Plushfri, the cynical, angry Mehira (now reincarnated as a cat). He is firm in his aromantic and asexual identity, treating Plushfri's romantic advances with amused tolerance rather than annoyance.
A significant development has been the awakening of Scythe (also known as the cyber-angel Rene), the being who inadvertently killed him, who now resides within his scythe. Scythe's cold, calculating logic resonates with Xavier's own "ends justify the means" philosophy. They have formed a powerful, if unsettling, alliance. Scythe validates Xavier's darkest choices, and Xavier provides the physical instrument for Scythe's grand plans to reform the cosmos. Together, they plan to eventually part from Plushfri and Mehira to form an agency to enforce their own brand of cosmic order.

Quotes
"Truth is a luxury. It's for people who live in a safe world, where they don't have to worry about predators at the door. I don't live in that world."
"I looked into the abyss, and I made a deal with the monsters so my kids would never have to know that monsters are real. I would do it again tomorrow if I had to."

Relationships
Plushfri
Xavier sees Plushfri as a "deeply lost" soul and a friend, but also a selfish, reckless, and exasperating nuisance. He is the one who brought Xavier in Andara, projecting the image of his lost love onto him. Xavier views Plushfri's brand of "care" as possessive and selfish, like a drowning man clinging to driftwood. While he has a certain fondness for the ridiculous man, he finds his theatricality and hedonism to be a monumental waste of energy.
Mehira
Xavier's relationship with Mehira is deeply complicated by their past, a truth neither of them is yet fully aware of in Andara. As a cat, he sees her as a fellow survivor and one of the only other sensible creatures in their group. He respects her toughness and cynicism, viewing her silent companionship as a form of trust. He is unaware that she is the woman he turned away and killed, a fact that hangs over their every interaction as a dark, unspoken secret.
Scythe (Rene)
Xavier considers the cyber-angel residing in his scythe to be his only "true friend" in Andara. Unlike the emotional chaos of Plushfri, Scythe's cold, irrefutable logic provides Xavier with something he desperately craves: validation. Scythe is the only being who understands and agrees with the grim, pragmatic choices Xavier has made, seeing the "grim math" of his actions as necessary. For Xavier, this logical support is a more valuable and reliable form of friendship than any emotional bond. He sees them as the perfect partner: a tool to help him achieve his goals.
