No Lullaby
A wolf with sharp green eyes, a scarred face, and a coat that transitions from copper brown to black. His fur is coarse and sticks up in uneven spikes, hardly ever laying flat.
He keeps his head down and tends to hunch, making himself look smaller than he is. Doesn't smile much, all scowls and glares. Will take staring contests as a challenge.

His earliest memories are of darkness, quiet, and warmth. Wander remembers Stonehaven in bits and pieces: half-formed faces of wolves who had visited him and his sister, light filtering through the entrance of the huge cave that they all shared, and how everyone felt like one big family. But mostly, Wander remembers the little pocket of warmth that he, Yael and Olimpia shared.
Their mother was kind, and wise. Wander soaked up every word of Olimpia filling their little heads with Haven rhetoric; magic was bad and like a terrible sickness, so evil that Stonehaven’s mission was to cure it, and eradicate the evil wolves who caused it to spread. Olimpia insisted repeatedly that the Kol were the bad guys, they were all rotten and ripped away everything good from the island in their violent rise to power. A lot of wolves died because of what the Kol did. They're monsters.
Wander didn’t doubt for a second that it was the truth. Why would their mother lie? Stonehaven was a sanctuary from the Kol's wicked ways. Every wolf’s duty was to serve the cause, and Wander was determined to throw himself into that responsiblity once he was old enough. He wanted to grow up and make his mother proud.
But then one day Olimpia told them she had a surprise for them, and they were going to play a game. Wander felt less and less eager to play the further they traveled from the Sanctum - he didn’t think they should be going into the Freelands, but if mom said it was okay, then it had to be. That’s what he told himself over and over, even when his paws started to ache and a little seed of doubt started to bloom as they trekked through unfamiliar territory. All the while it grew and grew, and he wondered if they were even playing a game anymore… but he was too nervous to ask. Too trusting.
When they arrived at the edge of a wet, barren forest, Olimpia stopped and finally told them what the surprise was: they were chosen to infiltrate the Kol. They would grow up with them, learn their ways, and return to Stonehaven as heroes. Wander tried to protest - this didn't feel right and it didn’t sound like something that Haveners do. They should go back to the mountains where they belonged, the Kol were evil and would hurt them if they got caught! But his argument fell on deaf ears. Olimpia said she loved them, and it was her duty to do this. Then she attacked them.
He felt utterly betrayed when Olimpia left him and Yael there, bleeding and alone. Wander clung to Yael when the Red Witch from all of Olimpia's most terrifying stories appeared, fearful that she would just hurt them worse… but they weren’t harmed. They were taken in and treated for their injuries, left in the care of a new mother, Dianna. They were left with no choice but to learn to navigate the nest of vipers they were thrown into.
Yael would never see out of her right eye again, and Wander felt sick with guilt for being unable to help her. The older he grew, the more his guilt curdled into a bitter anger towards Olimpia, torn on what to believe. Even worse, magic had afflicted them both: his shadow began acting with a will of it's own, and Yael's spirit could walk the island in her sleep. There were so many more eyes on her now that she was an indas... all Wander can do is try to stay close, keep his head down, go through the motions of a faithful Kol to keep them both safe, continuing their "mission." What else can he do?
