Reiji Irezumi (刺青零司 Irezumi Reiji), also known by his Hero name Skin Piercer (スキン ピアサー Sukin piasā), is a third-year student at U.A. High, training to become a Pro Hero.

Apperance

Reiji is a tall young man with a quite muscular build, light skin and dark red eyes. His black hair is kind of messy, with a parting on his left side that leads his hair to slightly cover the right side of his face. Two small scars are seen on his face; a perpendicular one that crosses the left side of his lips and a slanting one that splits a small part of his left eyebrow. Reiji also has two Helix piercings and one Lobe piercing on his left ear. That, and his constant grumpy expression gives him an overall „bad boy-ish“ look.

When wearing his school uniform, Reiji does stick more or less to the schools etiquette. However, his necktie isn’t tightened all the way up. Sometimes he doesn’t even wear one at all, because he doesn’t like the feeling of something being tied around his neck. He also doesn’t wear the normal shoes that are part of the uniform, but prefers to wear comfortable sneakers in red-black-white colors. This color scheme is also clearly seen in his Hero Costume.

Reiji’s Hero Costume consists of a vest with a high collar and open belts. The vest is always open and reveals a lot of skin, which is essential to use his quirk more openly. Furthermore he wears normal pants with various belts and solid boots with a thick sole. Like hinted by the sneakers he wears with his school uniform, his Hero Costume has an overall dark color scheme with black, red, brown and dark-grey. Some parts of both his vest and pants have a hexagonal pattern. There is also a small pouch attached to one of his belts that contains ampules with ink.

Personality

Due to the events in his childhood, Reiji developed a more cold and aloof personality. He almost always has a grumpy and irritated look on his face which can intimidate people who don’t know him, however, it doesn’t mean that he actually IS sulky in this moment. People who know him well are used to it and know, that it’s just his normal expression.

Despite his unfriendly look, Reiji has a deep sense of honor and justice, one reason for him to become a Hero. He would never use dirty tricks to win a fight, he solely trusts in his own power and skill. However, his manners often aren’t very „hero-y“. He is very hot- and short-tempered, causing him to often pick fights with school mates who get on his nerves. One reason for this behavior is his unstable blood sugar level. He suffers from „Hypoglycemia“ and needs to eat sweets regularly to keep his blood sugar up. But he often forgets about it and with low blood sugar he is more susceptible for contentions. After his internship with Edgeshot however, Reiji became much calmer and sometimes just ignores annoying situations.

Although he rarely shows it openly, he really cares deeply for his family and friends and can enjoy their company. He can be very respectful towards others, especially olders and authorities, but that respect must be earned first.

Quirk

Body Art (ボディアート bodi āto): Reiji has full controll over the ink inside his body. He is able to shift and shape it at will, even outside of his body as long as it's still connected to his blood circulation. Outside, he can use the ink variously, even changing its consistence and using it especially for offensive and defensive purposes.

Drawbacks of this quirk are, that he can „lose“ ink. Convulsions while attacking opponents or defending himself from attacks can cause the ink to splinter and separate from the rest/his body, disabling him from controlling that part. The less ink he has in his body, the less powerful and ranged his attacks are. Also, the amount of ink he can "store" in his body is limited.

A purely aesthetic aspect of the quirk is, that Reiji can use his ink and form tattoos all over his body and always change the motifs as he wishes. He mostly uses modern tribals but also likes traditional Japanese motives very much.

Super Moves

• Tebori Strike (手彫りストライク tebori sutoraiku): Reiji’s standart attack using his ink. He ejects a certain amount of ink from his body (mostly his arms) in the form of black „stripes“ he can use to attack. Those stripes can change their phase and be more liquid-like to very hard, even being able to shackle opponents or use them as a whip. The strenght of his attacks depend on the amount of ink used.
  • Shield (盾 tate): Reiji can harden his ink very quickly and defend himself and others with it.
  • Restraint (拘束 kōsoku): Reiji can also shackle opponents with his ink.

• Shadow Projectiles (影の発射物 kage no hasshabutsu): By deliberately separating small amounts of ink from his body, Reiji is capable of shooting them similar to projectiles at his opponents and literally pierce them. Like this he can expand his range of attacking. However, as soon as the projectiles are shot, he has no control over them.

Ultimate Move

• Eight-Headed Giant Snake (八岐大蛇 yamatanoorochi): Reijis Ultimate Move brings himself at high risk. By fusing his own blood with his ink, he can almost double the strenght of his attacks by forming eight long dragon-like heads with necks he can use to attack his opponents. However, this attack is highly time-limited and only designed to be one last charge, because he can easily damage himself by blood loss, if he uses too much blood and keeps it outside of his body for too long.

Equipment

• Ink Inserter (インクインサータ inku insāta): A practical device developed by a friend from the 3rd year Support Class that’s attached to Reiji‘s left wrist. With this, the hero can inject ink into his body all by himself in the form of ampules that are placed in the device. Before he got that support item, his father used to help him with „refilling“ the ink.

• Bag (袋 fukuro): This little bag is attached to one of Reiji’s belts and contains ampules that are filled with ink. Those ampules are designed to fit in exactly into the Ink Inserter.

Trivia

• Reiji’s name is composed of „刺“ (toge) which means thorn, and „青“ (ao) which means blue (ink). Together the name is read as irezumi and lit. means tattoo. Reiji is written with the Kanji for zero „零“ (rei) and boss „司“ (ji), which is a common component of male names.
• Reiji's favorite food is Okonomiyaki.
• Reiji's least favorite food are stawberries and anything stawberry flavored.
• Reiji's quirk is a combination of his parents quirks.
  • His father has an ink control quirk, being able to freely manipulate it, even when it's not connected to his body. He mostly uses his quirk for his work as a tattoo artist.
  • His mother has a blood quirk. When tasting only a single drop of somebodys blood, she can instantly make a full hemogram and knows, if there is something wrong. Being a doctor, this quirk comes in handy.
• Reiji tends to hide his tattoos under his clothes when at school (in his school uniform) or as a civilian. He only openly shows then during P.E. class (Hero Training) at school, or on duty in his Hero Costume.
• To deal with his hot-bloodedness, he started with calligraphy to be more relaxed and he's actually really good at it.
• Reiji's favorite animals are rabbits. He secretly has a pet bunny named Seto, however, "officially" it's Nana's bunny.
  • Apart from Edgeshot, his favorite hero is The Rabbit Hero "Mirko" (Usagiyama Rumi), because obvious reasons.
  • His Chinese Zodiac sign is also The Rabbit.
