Briar

Some people would have said that he had a good childhood. He was raised in a wealthy family that didn’t struggle to feed or shelter him. But there were other struggles. They were not wealthy by honorable means, but part of shady organizations. He was the heir to an empire built on crime, raised on violence and dark deeds. Briar easily fit into such a world. Cocky and competitive, he took to mischief and fighting. Losing an eye in a particularly brutal fight wasn’t enough to make him question his place in such a world. Losing his best friend gave him pause. He was murdered, there one day and gone the next. And in a world such as theirs, there was no contacting the authorities and no chance of retribution. Although he sought out vengeance, it didn’t make him feel any more whole after the loss of his friend left a gaping hole in him. Briar’s thoughts on his world soured and he sought a way out. His family was not keen on releasing him when so much had been spent raising him as an heir. Briar had heard stories of a man who had escaped the world he was raised in, so when he ran away from his home he went looking for said man. When he found him he asked to work under him, hoping the man’s reputation was enough to keep those who sought him out at bay. He wasn’t sure what made the man accept him, but he was grateful to at least have his foot in the doorway to a different life – a life where he wouldn’t be subjected to or responsible for pain. Although he has a long way to go, Briar hopes that he can begin to lead a more wholesome and normal life.
