He didn't remember much.
Running through the darkness, the screams of panic still rang in his ears. They had come because the people in the vault had started acting up. He had been one of them.
Everything seemed so easy. Overwhelming the security staff, opening the door of the vault. Easy work for him and his few friends. But as things go, nothing is ever easy, never. How could he have been so naive? He does not know; he can't remember. Vague memories tell him that at one point everything went wrong, extremely wrong.
The men in heavy powered armor had come, armor all black, later spattered red, red with blood. The blood of people he had known since he was a little child, friends...
Mike remembered the hissing sound of energy weapons, burning flesh and bone. The rattling of assault rifles. The stench of death and blood and the burning pain in his arm, when a bullet hit him. The arm cried for attention, throbbing, burning.
He had to stop, throwing up in a dead bush nearby. He felt so sick but he had to keep going.
