Back Story:

Marie Laurent was originally born in France, but moved to the Americas when she was only six years old. She impressed her peers at school with her ability to speak French and was well-liked for her talent. Despite all of the positive attention she gained, though, she was still immensely shy and didn't enjoy being spoken to by people she didn't know, even if they were complimenting her.

Fast forward eight years later, Marie is now in highschool, 14 years old, and still in America. She loves her current home, but misses the beauty and homey feel that France still gave her. Her parents knew this, and weren't surprised when their daughter asked them about possibly moving back to her former home. They told her that they couldn't fully move back due to the good money and environments both of their jobs provided, but said that they would gladly allow her to study abroad. Marie was skeptical about leaving her parents and her American friends behind for a few years, but eventually worked up the guts to return to Paris. They shared tearful goodbyes and see-you-laters before seeing her off on a flight to Paris, France to stay with her aunt and uncle.

She entered her first year of ninth grade at Collége Françoise Dupont as a bundle of nerves. Her French had become a little rusty due to living for nine years in another country, but she quickly found that she wasn't as bad as she thought she was after meeting a girl named Alexandrie Avé. Alexandrie and Marie became friends and Marie allowed the other girl to introduce her to the rest of her class (everyone except Chloé and Sabrina, of course). Marie and Myléne Hapréle quickly "clicked" and became best friends. Myléne was actually the first person she went to about her suspicions of herself being pansexual, and the petite girl gladly did everything she could to help Marie figure out her identity.

A year later, at 15, Marie Laurent received her miraculous through a mysterious birthday gift not long after she had stood up for an elderly Asian man when a few collége students were messing with him (which was actually an illusion courtesy of Rena Rouge). She found the feather-shaped earrings in an octagonal box tucked away in a present bag and met Gwenne, the Owl Kwami of Wisdom. Needless to say, Marie was nothing short of hysterical after seeing a flying, talking, four-inch-tall creature hovering around her face. But, despite her initial terror, Marie and Gwenne grew very close and made a very good team whenever Marie transformed into Chouette, her superheroine persona. Chouette was surprised to meet two other new miraculous holders, Lynx du Désert and Fisher, on her first day of crime-fighting. She, to her own surprise, soon fell for Lynx, and eventually developed a romantic relationship with the feline-themed superheroine as Marie. Fisher and Chouette developed a brother-sister bond, but he and Lynx couldn't seem to find common ground and often argued about how to defeat akumas (and a lot more, much to Chouette's chagrin). Thankfully, though, the Chouette usually found a way to put an end to the two's arguments.

The longer Marie stays in Paris, fighting crime alongside her team, hanging out with Myléne, and cuddling with Lynx, the more she resents eventually returning to America. She loves her family and American friends, but she can't shake the nagging feeling that she needs to stay where she is and aid her hero friends in fighting Papillion and his akumas. But, her departure is a thing of the future and she should, for now, focus on kicking akuma butt and studying so she can survive the rest of collége (especially since Lynx du Désert keeps finding a way to distract her).
