SUFFIX -blight
Believed to be a bringer of misfortune; a blight on TempestClan
C orvidkit was, from birth, considered a bad omen. When she was born, a flock of crows had flown across TempestClan’s camp— becoming her namesake, but also a reminder of the odd occurrence the night she was brought into the world. It was upsetting, really; brought into the world as an only-kit, ostracized from her peers whether it was intentional or not due to the gossip surrounding her birth. This ostracization from kits her age made it increasingly difficult for her to develop proper social skills.
When Corvidkit became Corvidpaw, every cat seemed to be on edge, especially her mentor. As if it were some cruel trick of the universe, Corvidpaw had been apprenticed to Turtlepool; the deputy who was most distrustful of Corvidpaw. Turtlepool seemed reluctant to teach Corvidpaw any battle moves at all, and would constantly gossip about anything “strange” her apprentice did during training. Corvidpaw did, at one point, ask TempestClan’s leader to change her mentor, but was met with a shrug and a “you get what you get” speech. With a sigh, Corvidpaw learned to just… ignore the stares. And eventually, they seemed to fade. Turtlepool began training her correctly, and some of her fellow apprentices even went out of their way to socialize with her! That was… until Turtlepool’s death.
Corvidpaw had nothing to do with it; she had been on the patrol, yes, but had been instructed to hide as soon as the fox had appeared. The one thing that didn’t sit right with the surviving members of the patrol was the singular crow sitting in a tree nearby, watching the entire scene play out. Corvidpaw was heartbroken at the death of Turtlepool. Sure, she’d been cruel to her in the beginning, but they’d been making progress. Things were finally starting to feel right! Now, cats began whispering again, and her new mentor seemed to be just as judgemental as Turtlepool had been in the beginning. However, this new mentor didn’t refuse to teach her; this new mentor pushed her to her limits. Despite this, Corvidpaw’s warrior ceremony was pushed back. They claimed it was because she had switched mentors midway through her training, but she knew it was because of the rumors. Fine, she decided. Let them hold me back. I’ll just keep at my training until I can beat the best of the best!
Eventually, her ceremony came and of course, she was named Corvidblight— a name that directly reflected the apparent “misfortune” she brought. Now, Corvidblight struggles to keep her head afloat in a world that seems determined to keep her down.
