PRE AWAKENING - humans, after learning about their imminent downfall, work to create a simulation to predict all possible outcomes and eventually find out how to stop the collapse. lisa, who originally created may, partners up with the corporation to send may inside of the simulation. after every failure, they reset the simulation based on the previous knowledge may had gathered, but everything does not go as planned. may has some amount of sentience.
POST AWAKENING - refers to may's failure to find a possible escape route for humanity after being kept inside of the simulation for 80+ years (8 years in human time) after a glitch occurs, she realizes that what she had been experiencing for the past 80 years was not real. the people she met, the ones she killed, the ones she saved, it was all a lie. with nowhere to go and too heavy of a burden to carry, she factory resets herself to try and save her future self and what's left of her. she eventually escapes from the lab.
PRESENT TIME - may now barely remembers anything from the lab. the last orders given to her (by herself) was to run as far as possible and find someone trustworthy enough. now stripped of her abilities and on the run, she stumbles upon lynn and something inexplicable draws them to her. she now wanders aimlessly with an insatiable need to know who she was, as she's lost all purpose.
