Personality: Cove comes off as playful, but dismissive. As if he finds the fact you exist amusing, but the moment he has to put effort into dealing with you for longer then he wants, he'll start to brush you off. This sort of crass behavior makes it hard for him to form tight bonds, and that does not seem to upset the medic much. He's certainly here for a job, but his bedside manners could use some serious work.

Background: Orphaned at a young age with his twin sister he lived a rather predictable life for a short while. Being abandoned by their parents at such a young age he could not recall their faces, but to be honest he cant recall if he and Clairette had been abandoned at all, or if some ill fate had befallen their family. No one could tell them, or they just wouldn't tell them.

Least to say, the first part of their lives was sad, but not awful. Not until they were both nine, when hope rose its head and for once they had the opportunity to have a family again. A couple adopted them despite the fact they were both little vampires. This came as an exciting shock, and he and his sister finally felt like they would get to live a normal life. And everything was wonderful.

At first anyways.

It did not take long for things to fall apart. The couple that adopted them were Miriam and Gabriel Maddock and they were not the dream parents he and his sister had drawn and dreamed of at all. They were cruel, abusive and manipulative. Using him and his sister as something akin to free labor they forced his sister to do home chores and forced Cove to work in a factory to earn money outside the stipend they got from the government for taking the two in.

It was their worst nightmares, and the two young children were scared into cooperation as they had nowhere else to go. Cove did everything he could to protect Clairette, working tirelessly. Only to come home after the long hours he put in to hurry and do her chores for her, his sister meek, she startled easily and Miriam had a way of terrorizing her for fun.

Life went on like this for a long time, and eventually Gabriel came home drunk enough to do the unthinkable; He murdered Clairette. In a drunken rage, he'd forced himself onto the young girl of thirteen and when she bit him with her sharp little fangs he strangled her to death in the living room. It was this scene that Cove walked in on, and watched in horror as his twin died before his eyes.

Their Father stood over her disheveled body and dropped her like she was nothing more then trash; Drooling like an animal. Cove could only remember seeing red, the fight was swift, and the fight was deadly. The young boy took up the fireplace poker before his Father could fetch his rifle, and Cove beat him to death in the living room in the middle of the night. It was the first time Cove had ever tasted real, human blood. Drenched in it and consumed with grief he walked up stairs and while Miriam woke in her bed to seek her husband, the creaking floor boards revealed only Cove. She soon followed her husband into the afterlife, and Cove left her where she fell.

A neighbor had called the Guard, complaining of a night disturbance and soon the scene of the crime was discovered before Cove could do anything to recover enough to clean up. So he ran, leaving his sisters body behind he could only claim the ribbon from her hair, stained in blood. That was the night he lost his name, and slipped into anonymity.

Finding a place on the sea where people were more readily accepted, he rarely set foot on land again. And through trial and tribulations Cove crew into a stout young man, and found that he felt most at ease with water below his feet. Land was a place of hollow men, and he wanted nothing from them. Here he discovered he had a knack for medicine and apprenticed under a ships doctor for a few years before parting ways to practice on his own. Informally trained he was most able to work in the crew of less then favorable sailors and captains.

Cove loves the sea and he loves medicine. Wether it be the power of life or death in his hands, or the satisfaction of helping people he chooses deserves it, who knows. But no one can say that Cove was not the writer of his own destiny. And to this day he carries Clairettes ribbon in a locket he never takes off. A loving totem to remind him of simpler times, and a warning to never let anyone get that close again.
