Profile
Nobody's perfect, but... all we can do is strive to be our best selves. In my case... I'd like to think that every day, I'm getting that little bit closer. Makes it feel like it'll all be worth it, someday.

Overview
The warm-hearted but oft tired IT engineer on the Tulpar. Considering how infrequently her assistance in that department is actually needed, she spends much of her time unwinding around the freighter or helping her crewmates with their own tasks when she can. When her expertise is required, however, she always makes pretty quick work of solving the problem so she can get right back to relaxing.

When Emma is put into a difficult situation, she's the type to be a lover rather than a fighter; she'll always seek to try a kind and diplomatic solution before resorting to force. However, this doesn't mean that she's a complete pushover; when all other choices have been exhausted, she has a very sharp tongue and knows how to cut deep. She's no slouch when it comes to physical strength either, even though she'd rather put her feet up than buckle down. She's learned a thing or two from her husband Swansea, and she can (and will) always call on him to help settle disputes that she fears she can't win alone.
During times that she isn't on the job, she finds joy in reading and exploring her neighborhood, taking a peek at any cute little shops that she comes across; she's very much the 'overly friendly white woman at the farmers market' type. It's only thanks to her husband that she doesn't constantly drop all of her money on new books and various knick-knacks she doesn't need, as she can be a bit of an impulsive purchaser. She loves animals, having owned many in her lifetime and enjoying visiting the zoo, and she loves getting to go out to dinner whenever she and Swansea are both free. Her favorite Pokémon is Musharna.
Story
Earth Life
Emma was once a person that often found herself listless, not knowing where her skillsets could be put to best use nor knowing how best to insert herself into the lives of other people. She struggled to find a place she could call home, where she felt like an important piece to a puzzle and could say she made some difference, no matter how small. If people heard her say she found that place on the Tulpar, she'd probably be called certifiably insane.
She never imagined that she'd end up finding comfort and joy in life working for a space freighter company, especially not having to work with their woefully outdated computer systems. However, on top of finding a place she felt like she could truly help, she ended up meeting her husband Swansea during her very first job for Pony Express. The two got off on shaky footing at first, but with genuine effort, they ended up becoming closer than one would expect by the end of the trip. She didn't mind that he had been once divorced, or that he had adult kids, or that he was dealing with addiction. Through nausea, wreckage, vomit, and ugly cruelty she would stay; that's what solidified their relationship as one to last.
In a world where the game's events don't happen, she and her husband end up living a long and happy life together, with her using her work in IT to keep them afloat and stable after Pony Express goes under. She's initially fearful of losing the home and sense of belonging she'd found in her coworkers and the ship, but she keeps in contact with everyone (save for one) and makes an effort to be a supportive and positive influence to everyone.
In Game
Prior to the crash, Emma couldn't truly say what it was that made her feel that way, but she found herself under the impression that there was a grave tension brewing amongst her crewmates on the Tulpar. She noticed her dear friend Anya seeming to pull away and behave differently from usual, but she didn't wish to pry or overstep boundaries. When she comes to learn the reason and is asked not to say anything, as she intends to bring it to Curly's attention herself, she understands but harbors guilt for not being able to do anything more to help.
After the crash, despite everything, she still tries her best to keep her optimism alive. However, she ends up being the first to lose her life among the Tulpar's crew. With Curly being unable to speak and Anya scared into silence, Jimmy knows that Emma would be the only one on the ship able to make him bear responsibility for what he's done. To ensure she never utters a word about it, he uses the rope to strangle her to death; he then stages it to appear as though she took her own life, unable to bear the thought of suffering on the ship with little hope of rescue. Everyone believes it.
Relations
married
Loving wife to her dear husband. The optimist to his pessimist, balancing them out. Always doting on him no matter how much he insists they be a little more professional on the ship. Supportive and sticking around through thick and thin no matter what happens, up to the very end.
close friend
Very close understanding of one another, as the only women on the ship. Likes to assist with organizing the supplies in the medbay, and enjoys viewing the nighttime screen with her when she can't sleep. Always on her side, during boardgame nights, study sessions, and everything else.
mother-son dynamic
Views him like another son, offering encouragement and advice to help him acclimate to the Tulpar. Enjoys chatting with him while he and Swansea work, and appreciates his cheerful nature. Would go mama-bear to protect him.
coworker (neutral-positive)
Doesn't really know him especially well, but on relatively positive terms with him overall. Appreciates his efforts to keep the peace, but sometimes questions if there are ways things could be done better... eventually finding the answer is yes. Doesn't want him to suffer, but wonders how things could have been different, if only.
coworker (negative)
Often wonders if he even remembers she exists, as he rarely ever talks to her or acknowledges her unless he has to. Extremely wary around him, as he tends to make her feel very uncomfortable. Wishes all her worst fears hadn't been proven right.
