He fought against Robotnik and its army in the past, when Sonic, Manic and Sonia were too young to do so.
He got killed when he was 22 by Robotnik, and the doctor was so touched seeing Harry dying that he never tried to really kill anyone anymore, so he roboticized people or made damage to them, but never really killed anymore after Harry.
Harry and Vanilla (Cream's mother) were best friends and Harry had a crush on her. Same for Vanilla, and they both knew it.
Harry got killed the day before Vanilla could ask him to officially become a couple.
He was Rouge's idol, guide, leader. When he died Rouge was only 8. This made her fall into a deep depression that she used to hide with jewels and sexy attitude in her teen years. With her team and best friends, Team Dark, with time passing she returns to her normal state.
