Zegur

Backstory

Zegur was born from an abandoned water egg found drifting in the sea, hatching as soon as it reached the shore. He lived most of his early life in the Tsunami Flats collecting interesting stones and fossils to sell to travelers or make into jewelry. When he came of age, he bid farewell to his friends and set out on what he hoped would be a quick, easy search to find his charge. Unfortunately, many years passed with no luck. He made a handful of friends on his travels, dragons and beasts that appreciated his methodical, mellow personality, but he was determined to always keep moving until he found his charge.

Well into his adulthood, he began to lose hope and feared his charge may have died or was simply in a location that was inaccessible to him. Despondent, Zegur turned to his hobby of collecting rocks and making jewelry, hoping the familiar work would keep him from spiraling into depression. He gained a reputation as a traveling jewelry maker, and towns always welcomed him and his unique creations.

He settled for a couple months in the Gladeveins, helping a group of ecologists survey the area and providing what geological insight he could. He quickly befriended Aurelio, a playful Spiral with a tendency to pop out of rivers and startle Zegur. One day when they were surveying Aurelio’s favorite waterfall, Zegur peered into the pool at the base and saw the most beautiful, most perfect river pebble in existence. He had to protect it.

His charge in tow, Zegur decided to circle around Sornieth once more to sell his wares before returning to the Tsunami Flats, but was caught in a particularly nasty thunderstorm in the Shifting Expanse. He desperately curled around his pebble to keep it safe in the howling winds and lashing rain, but the cold weather took its toll… the next thing Zegur knew, he was in a tavern huddled in front of a warm fire with new scars down his face and shoulders.

Zegur took the news of his death rather well - “As long as I have my pebble with me, it does not matter what plane I walk”. He’s opened up a jewelry and geological curiosity shop, happy to share his knowledge with Tavern residents and guests passing through. He misses being able to leave the Tavern and travel to find stones, but appreciates when patrons bring him some from their adventures.

He also discovered a passion for literature, particularly of the “trashy romance” variety. When he’s not out in limbo collecting stones, he’s attempting to write his own sappy novel. Recently, Zegur has started a romance with a new Pearlcatcher ambassador in the Tavern and a Wildclaw dancer in Shi’Kahr, both of whom were charmed by Zegur’s mellow personality and soft affections. Visits from Taurik and Vahzen are the only days Zegur’s jewelry shop is closed.
