Tenna basically goes insane, fighting for dominance in the network when Dee gets hired on. Appalled by her chaotic improv and knack for comedic timing, he becomes obsessed with keeping the prime time slot (Fridays at 8 pm). He knows his audience is diminishing and sees Dee's ratings going upwards while he remains stagnant. Her acceptance of internet culture and the new era piss him off.  

He boasts about his ratings and talks over Dee at their monthly meetings with their boss. He often claims that the need for new talent is unnecessary and makes sarcastic jabs at Dee. Dee acts blissfully unaware and unbothered by his contempt. She challenges him with her wit and connection to her fans. She knows that her broadcast is going to outshine "TV Time" as time goes on, and it actually pains her a bit. 

Dee is a TV host on an opposing channel under the same network as Tenna; her broadcast is similar to MTV. On her broadcast "Neon Frequency," she showcases music videos, psychedelic visuals, and reactions to silly internet clips. Think of "Ridiculousness" or "America's Funniest Videos." She often channels chaos to fuel her ratings and makes a moment out of every off-script incident. She claims the "random moments" are what make her broadcast feel alive. 

Secretly, she watches Tenna's reruns to "gather intel" and finds out that Tenna is actually quite funny, dorky, and charming. She becomes interested in seeing what lies behind his showman persona, doing harmless pranks on him to gather any genuine reaction. Behind closed doors, she struggles with her one-sided attraction to him for years, only expressing her frustration to her closest friends. He rarely broke character, so eventually the pranks grew stale. She was ready to give up on forming a bond with Tenna until one important night.

At the Network's annual Christmas party in 1993, she notices that Tenna is quieter than usual and his screen is dimming as the night continues. She catches him in the corner of the room, watching a display of "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" from 1964. She swears she saw him shrink in on himself before he got caught by Mr.Sterling, boasting about his own success that year. 

After seeing that one sliver of vulnerability from Tenna, she knew she couldn't give up on trying to form a connection with him.

Sponsors of the Network suggest that Tenna and Dee merge their broadcasts for one night in a collaboration to increase viewership. 

Following the groundbreaking success of the joint broadcast, their boss, Mr. Sterling, alludes to future collaborations.

As Tenna observes Dee carefully, he begins to realize she has more to her than being a chaotic nuisance. He discovers that her college education in music production and stage design, as well as a minor in graphic design, is reflected in her show. He is astounded by her hidden talent and becomes intrigued by her nature, wanting to learn more about her. He starts to realize that her chaotic frequency gives him more life than he has had for years.
