Their father could see through the Mist and knew some about demigods and their world, but died when Kolo was young. His father left him in Chiron's care, and they grew up in Camp Half-Blood. Despite this, they've never been claimed by their godly parent and have no idea who it is, and so reside in the Hermes cabin. He can leave camp when he wants, but has nowhere really to go. He does a lot to help out around the camp and gets a job later on to support the camp and for pocket money, since his allowance from Chiron is not much.

When Luke arrives at camp, he and Kolo get along and become close. They're the same age and both don't have much outside of camp to go to. Luke is reserved about his personal life and past but eventually opens up somewhat to Kolo, and they end up entering a relationship together. They aren't open about it because they don't see why it would be anyone else's business, anyway.

When Luke leaves the camp, he tells Kolo what he's doing as he gets his things from the Hermes cabin. They argue but Luke is adamant and leaves. After it comes out what's happened, Kolo sneaks out of camp and goes to join Luke. They talk a lot with Luke through the events of the series, being someone he can open up and talk to and work through things with. It's long and complicated and Kolo understands but that doesn't mean she agrees with his solution. Kolo is able to get through to him somewhat, and in the end Luke is able to overcome Kronos through the power of love and they get to be together and everything's okay.
