Leonardo Emerton, known by most as Leo is the main character of VERIS. He is the youngest child of Sebastian Caito and Elizabeth Emerton and brother of the Queen of Naitura, Mallory as well as commander in the army and head of the weapons and technology department of the Naitura Enforcement Organisation, or NEO. 

Background

Leo was born during the Bolusta uprising. After the banishment of his mother and the assassination of his father at only a single year of age he was raised by his older sister and her attendees. 

At a young age he showed a tremendous aptitude in maths, science and technology. His sister saw tremendous potential in him and thus had him undergo specialist training to induct him into her kingdom's law enforcement squad, NEO. As a result, most of his childhood was spend indoors isolated from people his age.  By age thirteen he joined NEO's technology and weapons department and by age 16 he rose to head of the department as well as commander in the army. 

Appearance

Leo has the appearance of a young adult of slightly above average height. He is slim but not unfit, with a good amount of muscle. His skin is very pale and perfectly smooth with no scars, spots, freckles or facial hair. He has an ovular face with dark brown hair that is extremely well groomed. In the VERIS, his hair turns a deep blue. 

Leo's wardrobe is very sophisticated. He usually wears a black suit jacket with a white shirt and tie on weekdays along with a matching pair of black pants and black shoes. On weekends he wears the exact same clothing with the exception of jacket and tie. For his VERIS uniform, he wears a black jumpsuit with blue patterns.

Personality

Leo is an extremely calm, sharp and logical individual. He is known to keep calm during stressful situations and is usually seen as the voice of reason to drag everyone around him back to reality, especially when his sister is involved. Despite his usually cool head, however, he has been known to snap when things get too much for him to handle, usually on the battlefield.

Due to his constant hype and appraisal by his peers during training, Leo is extremely egotistical. While he doesn't deliberately make an effort to flaunt his abilities, he will relentlessly defend himself whenever he is doubted, even going as far as to directly compare himself to critics to belittle them. His ego also causes him to be stubborn, but again, this is more of a "no duh" conclusion to him rather than a malicious bolster since he knows his IQ is much higher than others, therefore he can't be wrong in his mind.

Leo is relentlessly blunt, never sugarcoating his thought or opinions on anything. He believes the truth should never be shrouded as it is a deliberate and dishonest effort to manipulate others. This almost always lands him in trouble and coupled with his arrogance creates an extremely unlikeable persona for new acquaintances. 

Leo is extremely ruthless when fighting, never thinking twice about causing his opponents harm. He views the enemies of his faction and his sister as morally irredeemable and has no issues with treating them harshly in order to bring them to justice. He also knows specific combat techniques are much more effective when used more viciously and sees it as counterproductive to make his attacks deliberately less powerful during combat. His brutality has even hampered peace talks between factions due to the large number of injuries he can cause troops. 

Leo is an introvert by nature. Any time he's not out on missions he is either training by himself or working in his lab. He is both aromantic and asexual, making it difficult for him to form meaningful relationships with almost everyone.

 Relationships

Mallory Caito

Mal is the most important person in Leo's life bar none. They were both each other's sole family member growing up after their father's death and their mother's banishment as well as his sister being his guardian for nearly all of his life alongside her attendees.

While both extremely strong on their own, Leo and Mal are considered to be the ultimate duo in Naitura. Their years of solitary company allow them to perfectly understand each other, despite their polar opposite personalities. They also use their strengths to counter the other's weaknesses. Mal's outgoing and affectionate persona helps Leo get in touch with his emotions to help interact with both Naiturans and NEO collegues as well as push him to his extreme on the battlefield and Leo's sharp mind and calm demeanor allows him to reign in his sister when her emotions overtake her.

Amelia Kelly

Leo initially found Amelia to be nothing but a nusiance when she first joined him as an intern. Though he secretly admired her passion for science & technology, he found her attitude and demanour extremely irritating and not fit for working environment. Meanwhile, Amelia took issue with the fact the person she idolised the most was actually a cold, arrogant loner who didn't seem interested in teaching her anything useful.

This culminated in Leo throwing one of Amelia's inventions in the trash that she spent a whole week building to try and prove her worth to him. As a result, she ran out of Leo's lab in a rage and ran into Mal on the way, who calmed her down by inviting her into the throne room and sharing sweets. She also promised to make Leo take more of an effort to teach and engage with her.

Leo's efforts proved ineffective, however, due to his lack of social skills and his extremely vocal preference of working in solutide. Amelia then began to criticise his newly designed cannon weapon, claming he could increase it's stability by altering the structure. Leo then finally recognised her skills and self appointed her as his lab partner where she refined and improved his final designs for weapons and helped him test them.

The two now share a strong mutual respect. Leo still treats Amelia sternly most of the time, but now shows the ocassional affection when she needs it. Meanwhile, Amelia is still as vocal and energetic as ever but shows more signs of understanding to her tutor's odd habits.

 Abilities and Fighting Style

Leo's most notable strength is his mind. He has an IQ of 350 as well as a memory that passed all three of the photographic, eidetic and hyperthermisia tests, allowing him to recall everything he has ever seen or heard with perfect accuracy. This also allows him to learn and speak any language fluently by simply hearing a few sentences. He can also use his memory to visualise any image he wants with exquisite detail, which particularly comes in handy whilst inventing. Leo's sharp and logical mentality allows him to apply the information he gathers to break down any situation in detail and attain a near perfect assessment extremely quickly.

Leo is considered to be one of the greatest fighters in both NEO and all of Naitura, just behind his sister. Due to his specialist NEO training and optimal body type, Leo possesses superhuman speed and agility, alongside equally impressive reflexes and reaction times. He is also much physically stronger than he appears, able to lift objects up to twice his own weight (145kg). However, due to his overreliance on avoiding enemy attacks, he also has a huge lack of durablity, with just a few clean hits normally enough to rule him out of continued fighting, making it more difficult to take on multiple enemies, though he has succeeded in doing so several times before.

Leo's fighting style often depends on the weapon he is using at the time. His preferred style, however, uses his favoured palm weapon, which deals damage depending on the user's muscle strength, to utilise his excellent agility, dealing damage in fairly small bursts and dodging enemy attacks to wear them down, before finishing them off with a more powerful move. When using his arm cannons, his weight tends to slow him down much more, leading him to focus on using their ability to shift into both arm shields to block attacks and mechanical fist armour to deal more powerful blows and finish foes off more quickly. His sword style is extremely similar to his palms, only with more of a focus on close ranged blows rather than long distance shots. Like most weapons in VERIS, all of his weapons use elemental chips, which generate attacks of the given element depending on the strength of the source used to forge it. Leo's favourite in combat are lightning chips, which he most often pairs with his palm.

Leo also wears a utility watch on his left wrist that ranges from standard smartwatch applications to containing various gadgets of his. These include a collection of different coloured smoke bombs and a gel that allows Leo to control whatever piece of tech it envelops using his watch.
