Background:
Orpheus's kind are an anomaly within the System they reside in and a source of great curiosity. In the battle to ensure the independence of their worlds it was discovered that the Centaurs of his planet were highly resistant, if not entirely immune, to the effects of the Pheromones and Syrups produced by the Hive Queens. The flowers that would otherwise have been considered a threat did little to them and numerous attempts to invade their world were thwarted by this. With an otherwise inhospitable world to tend to, they proved to be a bastion of strength and security, and quickly became the frontline against any impending invasions.

Bulwarks were constructed behind their world and allied planets within the system chose instead to build several basis in their orbit to provide assistance. Strangely, this assistance was neither welcomed nor necessary. With magic and strength at their disposal, Orpheus's kind had little use for the aid they were offered, though they did not dissuade others from attempting to protect themselves. 

In time, it is said that the Hive Queens retreated to consider their options and it was during this quiet period that the planets turned against his kind. In a generations, the Centaurs of his world became the hunted, with several species determined to understand how they proved to be such volatile hosts to the Asmotheian influence. This hostility was responded to in kind and a once peaceful system descended into war, severely weakening each planet that existed within.

Now vulnerable, one Hive Queen chose to strike and in doing so she brought each nation to their knees one by one. Alas, battered and bruised by the constant need to defend themselves, the Centaurs turned their backs to those in need of their aid and allowed the System to succumb to the Queen. Now they lie under siege, surrounded on all sides by hostile forces and with a Queen that sends frequent troops to their planet to weaken them further. 

Without assistance it is only a matter of time before the last planet standing finally falls, and with it, the Hive Queen may not have more peons, but she'll certainly have a fascinating species to study. Orpheus's kind have every reason to suspect that when that day comes their future will not be a kind one and as such, they continue to spend their dwindling resources on opportunities to save their species.

It is for this reason that Orpheus often finds himself in worlds far unlike his own, untouched by the influence of the Hive. He seeks friends, allies, and better yet a means to permanently expunge the threat of the Hive Queen from his system. He has yet to find success, but miracles can happen...even if he doesn't necessarily buy in to such things.

Currently in the company of an exuberant woman named "Brioche", she has assured him that she will find a solution to his problems. He remains sceptical, but he will at least provide her with an opportunity to try.
