Akihiko takes everything a little bit more seriously than he should. This is mostly because he wants to show that he doesn't take everything for granted. That he's willing to do the work to get the reward. So he'll do all the work he has to prove himself, even if it's more than he can take. He's very practical, wanting to finish whatever task he's given until it's fully complete. Even embellishing on whatever might need an improvement with it. After he's finished his first task, it's onto the next. He's very predictable with what he's about to do and so on.

Because Akihiko is so serious, it's easy to poke fun at him. He's such a stark contrast compared to his brother Mizuki -- who takes things at a slower pace and is always joking around. He's doesn't like to be teased, as he knows it's easy to poke fun at him. When it happens, he just get super flustered. It's small things like this, that make him immensely grateful for the people around him. He loves the people around him and knows they have the his best interest at heart. However, he wants them to know he has their's as well but has a harder time trying to convey that towards them.

History

Akihiko and Mizuki's parents had died from a car crash on their home from work one day. They were carpooling together and neither lived through the accident. Akihiko was 9 years old when this happened and he felt his whole world crumbling. When he saw his brother not taking it well, Akihiko decided that wallowing in their loss wasn't the answer. He had to be strong from his little brother after all. So he put on a tough act to help him and his brother get through the tough times they were experiencing.

The brothers spent nearly a year in the orphanage before meeting Seto and Izanami Kaiba. When they first met them, Akihiko was adamant that if the couple were going to adopt either of them, it had to be both of them. He wasn't going to go anywhere without his brother. Something which Seto could sympathize with and Izanami didn't see anything wrong with that. Once everything was in order, Akihiko and Mizuki were brought to their new home and met their sister, Orihime. The three siblings had a hard time trying to get along but after realizing they all loved Duel Monsters, it was smooth sailings from there.

Akihiko wanted to prove his thankfulness towards his parents. So he asked to have the same studies Orihime was given and, he persevered through them. While his sister had an easier time getting through all the lessons their tutors provided, Akihiko had a slightly harder time. Although, his sister helped him with his studies and the two had an easier time getting along.

Duel Academy

Akihiko was the first of his siblings to get into the Duel Academy. He was placed into Ra Yellow and felt so proud of himself for it. However, during his last year, when both Orihime and Mizuki entered, he felt embarrassed that his sister so easily got into Obelisk Blue. Though he was also immensely proud of her. He had spent most of his time trying to get into the Obelisk Blue dorm but he was happy Orihime got into the dorm. Although he didn't get to spend much time with both of his younger siblings while at the Duel Academy, he did leave an impression with the teachers they had. He also was there to help them and give them pointers while he was around.

After graduating Duel Academy, Akihiko took a job at KaibaCorp and was tutored by his uncle, Mokuba Kaiba. Mokuba was the current CEO of KaibaCorp and Akihiko felt confident that he could learn whatever he had to from his uncle to help his sister out.
