He was raised in a small catholic orphanage, because his parents abandoned him, in a village in the mountains. Other kids living there were scared of him because of how he looked, so were the nuns working there - they often called him a satan's spawn. That made him hate himself and his body, he became really anxious about it. He started covering himself up with sweaters and turtlenecks. It made the weird stares stop, but some kids were still scared. He never really had any true friends. Books helped him escape the awful reality he lived in. He worked insignificant part time jobs, so he could get the funds to get out of the orphanage. He moved out of it as soon as it was possible. He was living in a hotel for a while, until he found a job in a library, owned by an alicorn named Lost Constellation, located in the part of the village that was inside the mountain. Lost told Mystic that a small house is conntected to the library and that he was more than welcome to live there if he wanted to, so he also started living there. That was very convenient for him, because he didn't like going out, leaving his place of living alone made him anxious.

He's really enjoying his work as a librarian, he's got unlimited access to books and he doesn't have to leave his house thanks to, kind of, living in his workplace.
