Relationship status: in a dedicated friendship (relationship??) with Killeigh, a character made by my best friend Green-Eyed-Princess. It’s complicated.
As a child she was abandoned by poor parents who could not afford to care for her. She grew up on the streets, helped by various strangers who she had no attachment to. At the age of 12 she laid eyes on the princess, Killeigh. Entranced by the beautiful riches and jewelry, Azabelle grew jealous and decided to rob the castle. Ignorant and young but full of fire, she scaled the castle gates and climbed the side of it with unbelievable skill. Using just her bare hands she made it up to an open window and crawled inside. Into the princess’s room.
The princess, of the same age, didn’t seem bothered, welcoming a new friend and throwing Azabelle off. She had only had cold encounters, never met a friend. She was captured shortly after by a guard who heard her speaking to the princess from outside the door. Killeigh screamed and pouted and shouted until Azabelle was let free. The king sighed and pardoned the young thief. She would be welcome in the castle from now on. Despite this, Azabelle would only ever climb in through the window, causing a panic in the guards each time when they thought she was an intruder.
With access to great food and an amazing friend, Azabelle grew strong. She refused to stay at the castle, not trusting the guards one bit. She grew close to the princess. One night when she was reaching adult age, she caught an assassin trying to sneak into the princess’s room and promptly killed him with nothing but a broken bottle. Immediately after, she loudly demanded to be the princess’s personal guard since those guards couldn’t properly protect her. After days and days of demanding they give her the job, the king finally agreed but on the condition that Azabelle join the royal guard and get some proper training. Azabelle eagerly agreed.
A sword was placed in her hands and she was given a strict training regimen. They learned very quickly that Azabelle did not like following rules, that this training was too mild for her, and that she had surprising strength. At 19 she was physically stronger than the entire royal guard. Needless to say she excelled while pissing off her mentors. Now she stands at her princess’s Side proudly protecting her from any threat.
