Profile

Wayang kulit is the traditional art of shadow-puppet play performed in Java, Bali and Lombok. Puppets are fashioned from water buffalo parchment and attached to bamboo sticks, using an oil lamp to project the shadow on a screen. With time Hindus and Muslims incorporated religious themes in the plays, which can last even a whole night in some Javanese theatres. This art was declared an international cultural treasure by UNESCO in 2003.

Marina is a water buffalo minotaur from Java who turned her country's traditional art into an esoteric combat technique, using her own body as the "puppet". Her clever use of shadow manipulation makes up for her lack of agility, allowing her to make full use of the massive physical strength typical of minotaurs.
