Ärla

Personality

Friendly, playful and always ready for a good laugh. Ärla loves the sound and feel of life all around, from the smallest chirping insects to the rolling thunder of a storm. She's unafraid and curious, and loves exploring new things and places. She's impulsive, and can at times be rather naive. She gets frustrated at times with her own speech impediment, but tries not to let it bring her down. She will gladly talk or sing for hours, despite her struggles.

Appearance

Ärla is a slender wolf-mix with a spring in her step and an easy smile. Her fur is always unruly and easily tangles. Her paws are large, and her legs long, giving her a gangly appearance. She has floppy ears and a slightly roman snout. Her fur is mainly a warm, dark brown, with lighter paws and sides, and orange eyes.

Despite being half-marulv, Ärla has inherited few obvious or debilitating mutations. Her tail resembles that of a cow or lion instead of a wolf, with mostly short fur except for a tuft at the tip. She also has a pair of longer saber-teeth or tusks in her upper jaw that grow from behind her regular canines. Her biggest mutation, however, though less immediately obvious, is her three-way split tongue. The muscle is split far back in her mouth, easily giving the appearance of three separate tongues, although this isn't the case. The tongue makes it difficult for Ärla to pronounce certain sounds.

Trivia

• Ärla was originally designed in 2023, but wasn't created on the forum until a few years later. She was slightly redesigned in 2026 to be even more brown and warmer in colour.
• Her name starts with a Swedish "Ä" [æː]. She's somehow the first character on the site to have a name starting with Ä.
• She has relatively few mutations compared to other marulvs and half-marulvs, her main mutation being the three-way split tongue. Kreft decided on the tongue mutation as it was relatively discrete, and a mutation that hadn't been used on the site before. The tongue also makes Ärla lisp, just like her mother.
• Due to her three-way split tongue and her large upper teeth, Ärla has a strong lisp and struggles to pronounce certain words or sounds.
• She inherited her mother's cow-like tail and floppy ears. She and her brother both inherited one set of their mother's tusks; Ärla having the upper set while her brother has the lower tusks.
