KING OF DIAMONDS • PRINCE OF HELL

A demon that willingly left Hell centuries ago and now wanders the Earth with his ethereal entourage of crows and ravens, Caim is a very old entity who's lived long enough to observe the past, present, and future of Heaven and Hell, and has foreseen their downfall. Though no longer working in Hell's name, Caim still forges contracts with mortal souls who show initiative, fulfilling their desires in exchange for their soul, if he believes their wish is admirable. Since Caim is no longer connected to the infernal energy of Hell, he gets his energy through these neutral-aligned mortal souls offered to him willingly as part of a fair and even deal. For each pact redeemed, his avian entourage grows by one...

However, collecting souls isn't his main goal in his life on Earth: it's simply something he agrees to when worthy mortals are so inclined to offer. Rather, his main occupation is reveling in all the small excitements that make life interesting. This often includes the making of mischief: causing minor chaos and carving small dents in the pillars of order that define (and- in his opinion- hold back) the lives of mortals in their daily routines. He begins to unravel their understandings of their own universe just enough for them to disassemble the rest if they so choose. In Caim's eyes, his chaos liberates the mortal world from the iron grip of Heaven and Hell by awakening the free will of mortals. On a larger scale, he values the disruption of the norm; uprooting hierarchies and authorities: even those as mighty as the governments of Heaven and Hell, and all else which traps the lives of mortals and immortals alike in a stagnant, unidirectional fate.

The power of choice; the impact of a single drop in the well... These are the things that fascinate Caim about the Earth, and about the lives of the mortals that inhabit it. This is why he continues to wander the mortal world...

Corvid Companions

In his endless journeys around the mortal world, Caim is accompanied only by his flock of crows and ravens. Each has their own name and story, and he knows them all well. They are immaterial; made of shadows, and pieces of Caim’s own soul. Therefore, they cannot be hurt or killed unless Caim himself were to die. Since there are so many of them in total, many of them are often spread far and wide, acting as Caim's eyes into the goings-on of the present world, and scouting things out so they can bring back messages of all the interesting things they've witnessed.

Mortals that catch a rare glimpse of one of these sneaky birds often believe they've seen some sort of ancestral ghost of the modern (anthro) Avian corvids. Seeing one of these ghosts is a powerful omen that foretells the coming of an odd stranger- one who will come and go like an eclipse: enveloping your whole world one minute and gone the next. Both Caim and his birds come and go with the shadows, and hardly leave a trace of their presence.

The Fool

Having become a rogue, neutrally-aligned being of chaos, Caim has made many enemies in both Heaven and Hell alike. Many Divini believe him to be a mad fool, especially for giving up all the power he used to have when he still lived within these divine hierarchies. Most of the reason neither side bothers hunting him down despite knowing of his presence is that they consider him to be an empty shell of what he once was, though few would ever say this if they thought he might be watching or listening. Due to his age, experience, and unique abilities, he could still prove an admirable foe, and since he only commits minor trickery in the realm of mortals, he isn't considered a major threat to either side, just a lost old fool. So, for the most part, he is left well enough alone, but if Heaven and Hell didn't have each other to deal with, he'd almost certainly be enemy number one.
