Backstory

Hazel's father was an ex-military officer who become hyper paranoid after his discharge. His paranoia led to him doomsday prepping, sometimes dragging his daughter into training with him. This drove a wedge into his marriage and Hazel's mother began falling out of love with her overly-protective husband. Hazel's parents divorced when she was a young teen and her mother left her father and Hazel financially and emotionally high and dry. She grew to resent her mother for leaving and wound up becoming a bit of a neet, staying inside playing video games, watching anime and tending to her broken-hearted father. Shortly after the divorce, Hazel's mother died in a car accident, and the death haunts over Hazel, who was torn between wanting a relationship and being spiteful. She feels both guilt and rage towards the thought of her mother. 

A cosplayer with no life fresh out of high school, Hazel was at a large anime convention when the zombie outbreak began. Everyone thought the zombies were just really good cosplayers and started getting slayed. Due to her background in apocalypse training, she easily defended herself, but when her friends turned, she was forced to take them out. The incident mentally shattered her and judgement and if it wasn't for the cool-headed estranged cop she teamed up with, she'd probably be dead from trying to mass murder hoards of zombies on her own. They are currently on their way to Canada, where the zombie outbreaks are rumored to stop.

Personality 

Spunky, fun-loving and eccentric, Hazel hasn't transitioned that well into the zombie apocalypse. She doesn't have the best decision-making skills (well, substantially worse than she did before anyways), and she finds herself a bit too overzealous with murder these days. She never strays too far from her fire ax and has gotten pretty comfortable with her cop partner's service revolver. Likes to decorate her weapons with Japanese "KAWAII" stickers, but the blood and guts always make them slip off. Still has coherent cognitive skills, but acts crazy out of apathy for what the world has become. Fawns over Callum despite his constant rejections; bases her self-worth over her sex appeal a little too much. Hazel at her core is just a broken person trying to hold onto what the world used to be by holding onto her childhood and teenage years too strongly. Despite having an affinity for violence and having seemingly "lost it", Hazel has a pretty strong grasp on reality but lives in strong denial; underneath all that sass and spunk she's emotionally vulnerable and self-conscious. Since the outbreak, she despises being alone and will only sleep if she's beside Callum. After everything that's happened, she's still a little girl who's afraid of the world.
