As far as she’s concerned, Kiki does not exist offline. Or, at least, she shouldn’t, and attending Hope’s Peak Academy doesn’t help her hatred of being perceived… she’d much rather be the person she is online. She doesn’t want to be here, she doesn’t want to be an Ultimate. She just wants to go back to the familiar comfort of isolation.

Online, Kiki is a normal person: a plain, down-to-earth girl who likes talking about anime and a friendly presence n the forums she moderates. Some even think she’s cool, and it’s at least true that she’s calm and collected when hidden behind a screen. But the reality is a night and day difference.
In the real world, Kiki is barely functional. She’s extremely reclusive, anxious, and self-depreciating, and does her best to be as little of a nuisance or inconvenience as possible. She struggles severely to make friends, and strongly believes everyone hates her due to her odd behavior and strange presence. It’s massively easier for her to be “herself” online, where she can be a normal person with normal friends and interests, and not the freak she actually is.

Backstory

Kiki’s led what most would call an uneventful life since dropping out of elementary school and switching to online classes. She spent most of her childhood being relentlessly bullied for being “weird” and struggling severely with social norms, and after her parents pulled her out, she didn’t leave her room for nearly 10 years. Even with online classes, she’s barely managed to pass school, spending a majority of her time watching anime and browsing forums- it’s good, it’s comforting, it makes her feel normal. Do her parents even care? They still bring her food every so often, and leave her bulk orders of ramen outside her door… but not enough to actually figure out why she’s like this. She hasn’t seen her mother in five years straight. Maybe they’re just hoping a switch will flip and she’ll suddenly become normal one day. Hell, she never wanted to go to Hope’s Peak, but her parents responded to the application for her without ever showing her the letter… do they really think this will change anything?
Almost all of Hope’s Peak’s classes are in-person, and she’s been marked as a “problem student” for the crime of just… never showing up. But they knew they were recruiting a shut-in- so what’s with the hissy fit? Didn’t they know this would happen?
