Dr. Walterson used to work overseas, but came back to England due to health reasons. With his wife often away due to her own work, he found himself lonely & quite bored. This led to him renting his rooms out. For a while his only tenant was Locke, a consulting detective, who roped Walterson into accompanying him on cases. Now Sherwood has joined them both in living in the same flat & by solving mysteries.
Locke! You cannot enter a lady's room unnanounced! Actually, you shouldn't be entering at all!
ABOUT
THE PAST...
Dr. Walterson comes from a rather large but respectable family. He is the youngest son of 6, with two older brothers, two older sisters, and one younger sister. He grew up in a rather loud but loving home, though as the youngest son there was not much he was left to inherit except a rather small flat in London. However, he was able to get a decent education that allowed him to become a doctor. At that time, many positions overseas were open, and craving some adventure he took one to India. It was on the ship there that Dr. Walterson met his wife, a botanist who mainly traveled to do fieldwork studying and collecting different plants.
After getting married, they would often travel together. Mrs. Walterson would go off to study plants while Dr. Walterson would tend to the sick and wounded in whatever place they visited. Unfortunately, as the years went on, it took a toll on Dr. Walterson. Although he had an adventurous spirit, he also tended to take too much on himself, and as he overworked his health declined.
“I would rather be comforted by the fact that you are waiting for me at home, than return to an empty house as a widow.” Was what his wife said that finally convinced him to return to England, for he was determined to stay by her side and did not want her to give up on her dreams for she loved her work. However, despite the large population, London felt lonelier than the remotest village. They had no children, and most of his relatives lived on or close to the family estate outside of London… and he was bored. So bored! What was there to do in London except for frivolities?
AND NOW...
After a suggestion from a friend, Dr. Walterson started considering renting out the spare rooms since he had the space for it, and he ended up finding a new tenant in Mr. Locke. An eccentric man who works as a consulting detective. Walterson becomes fascinated with him and the way he could see and notice things most could not, and eventually the doctor finds himself following the detective around and aiding him in his investigations.
Recently someone new has joined them, both in solving cases and living in the same flat. A Mr. Sherwood-- ah, no, actually a Miss Sherwood, as Walterson discovered by tending to an injury she unfortunately received during a rather dangerous investigation. She's a mysterious sort who takes up different identities and when Dr. Walterson rents out the last room to her, she takes on a new identity as his 'timid' niece.
Dr. Walterson's two unique tenants keep life interesting, though he worries about them and the trouble they get themselves into.
NOTE Dr. Walterson gets compared to a fretful mother...
