Alyce Brangwyn

BACKSTORY

Over time, more and more folks living in the area around River City grow  animal-like features.  The nearby Cross Town becomes home to many of these people, who are eventually known as "crosses", after the town.  However, this is only the beginning of terrible experiments that ensue in the Cross Town Asylum, a medical facility that treats the crosses as something between prisoners and guinea pigs.  Alyce Brangwyn is one of  the patients at this terrible facility, ever since her own mother left her there at age 4.

When one too many marks for disobedience cloud her record, she's slated for "experimental surgery", essentially a death penalty.  On the day of the procedure, she makes a daring escape into the slums of Cross Town.  There, she hopes to evade capture and learn about the outside world she's been kept away from.  To that end, she befriends a pickpocket calling himself "Grizz", and comes to appreciate his street smarts and patience.

PERSONALITY

Despite Alyce's childhood, she carries herself with good cheer and optimism almost all the time.  To her, the outside world represents endless possibility, and no shortage of new experiences to find.  Her boundless energy and naivete sometimes get her in trouble, but her pure intentions and extroverted tendencies mean that it's rarely anything too serious.  Her honesty and talkative nature give her the appearance of an "open book", and that's mostly correct.  She never hesitates to speak her mind, except if she knows what she has to say will bring people down, in which case she'll likely keep it to herself.

If Alyce sees someone being hateful, a bully, anything like that, she won't hesitate to speak up.  She's slow to anger, except if friends or family are being harmed.  Despite all that, she's often so accommodating and kind that even people out to harm her may end up counted among her many friends.  She's very perceptive to the things that make people happy, and if she's hosting friends at her place, she'll endeavor to make sure their favorite snacks are waiting for them when they arrive.  Overall, there's nothing she loves to see more than a smile, and she'll often do whatever it takes to bring smiles to as many people as she can.
