Cold and austere, she commands loyalty with her iron rule and ruthlessness in decision-making. She has a softer side, which she only shows her collection of historic maps and tomes.

Appearance
Liridona is pale and black-eyed, with wiry black hair, which is swept into a tight bun. She wears a white covering on her bun, embroidered with black vines, and it is held in place with a golden, feathery hair ornament, similar in appearance to the pauldrons she wears upon her shoulders.

Physique
Liridona is medium height, but relatively athletic in stature, and is known to be quite strong.

Info

Liridona is the queen of Laudrienne, a small nation that is surrounded by two large kingdoms, Laug and Schwartzwald, and shares a southern border with Miucci.

Liridona commands the Jubilee Guard, which selects the strongest, most worthy men to protect the palace and the inner city. These guards shed their wings in order to forge colourful, sometimes elaborate armour. Such notable guards are Valentin, Luca, and Basil.

Presently, Laudrienne is at war with Laug, who repeatedly tries to invade and swallow Laudrienne, and with Miucci. At the same time, the Laug (son of Queen Tiril) prince was slain in a border village by a harbinger, and the war has grown more intense.

Involvement in plot

Liridona shares two characters in Thorns. The first Liridona is the real queen, who has been removed from the castle; the other is a shapeshifter, who stole Liridona's identity. It at first appears to be a ruthless takeover on the real Liridona's part, as she believes she has been injured and left to die in the wild. However, as the story unfolds with the wizards-- who seek royal blood to take control of the legendary mirror-portals--, the real Liridona realizes that the shapeshifter is trying to protect her. All that's left now is for Liridona to lead a life free of her royal title, with the help of Valentin, a disgraced guard, and Giacomo, a prisoner of war.

When Laug succeeds in invading the capital city of Laudrienne, with the help of wizards, and the invaders enter the castle and attempt to assassinate Liridona. However, the shapeshifter steals the disguise of the assassin and Luca slays the real assassin. This concludes the fake Liridona's involvement in the plot. She is believed to be dead after this, claimed to have jumped from the balcony of her chambers.

The real Liridona travels down to Miucci, who has now abandoned war, with Valentin and Giacomo, and they seek to restart their lives there. And Giacomo, being a national, plans to part with them upon their arrival. They arrive in the capital city, only to find the city in upheaval-- their queen has been murdered, and the citizens are looting the palace.
