Random Bat Facts
- Flying foxes, despite their name, are not related to Foxes at all,nor are they canines!
Flying foxes are called such due to their 'fox-like' face, they are their own species of bat (Chiroptera)

- Flyingfoxes areresponsible for the majority of the mangrove forest's growth in Australia and other parts of the world!

- Microbats are responsible for insect population control all over the world, so if you hate mosquitos,

you should be thanking our little batty friends for there being 'less' than there already is.
Imagine how many mosquitos we would have if we had 'no microbats'? One can only shutter from such a thought.

- It is a poor misconception that bats 'destroy' farmer's fruit trees. Fruitbats greatly prefer the fruits grown in the wild as they taste better
andhave more nutrients than those we grow ! Although some bats may fly to man-grown fruit trees, they only do this when they are desperate.
If you wish to protect your crops, consider using environmentally friendly netting and calling your wildlife center to come retrieve any bats caught in the net.

- "Bats all carry rabies" is also a very poor misconception.Less than 1/10 of 1 percent of wild bats have rabies.
If you see a bat is acting strangely, lethargic, flying into things etc.,call your local animal wildlife centerand have them handle the bat.

DONT touch them yourself.
