The first impression most get of KD is that... she's notoriously bad at first impressions. She carries a bluntness that often comes off as rude to those uninitiated, and always seems to be doing Something that you're inevitably pulling her away from whenever you speak to her. At first, it's hard to believe how someone who's not exactly the most personable landed such a forward-facing position among the DPRI, but her general knowledge on the position and concise and objective viewpoint on it is what people interested in the field need to hear. Demi-Planar matters are firstly, on a need-to-know basis, and secondly a very daunting prospect for newcomers; And if anything KD excels at making those very nebulous concepts a little more tangible.
Putting aside from the resting bitch face and her stoically flat tone, KD does care a lot about her fellow bramblings. One of her character fallings is how overly careful she is, locking initiates behind yellow tape and clearance levels, but it's due to the very real fact of what the DPRI is Doing is meddling into matters that are still not completely understood. Even as an analyst to these planes, with years of observation and notes, there's still a lot that even she doesn't understand of the nature of them, so in her eyes it would be boorishly irresponsible to strap someone up and shove them into an unknown dimension for research purposes. And though many at the research institute don't Like to admit it, the early days of the DPRI don't have the most stellar of records, their current bureaucratic and 'clean' image a response to the collateral damage of previous risky behaviors. Every rule is one painted in blood, and KD's one of the few faces of the DPRI that's honest about that. Sure, of course, bramblings have never been observed as even being Capable of death- but that doesn't mean worse can't happen.
While her on-paper job is that of a Planar Analyst, which is technically what she Does, she's also the one to generally handle initiations into the program and offers Q&A to prospective hires- at least what she's at liberty to answer. She serves as part of a roadblock or proving ground to the DPRI, she's Not going to mince with you and though the institute's always in need of new members it needs people who are Serious about the position and understand both the reality of the work and the potential level of risk. Though she has a bit of a reputation to the general public, anyone who Actually works with her has grown to love the girl, developing a big sister dynamic with many of her long-time coworkers.
She's very careful and very organized, and that coupled with her background in planar affairs KD generally turns her nose up at Inter-Planar communities like the commune in Haven. She particularly very much dislikes Somerset, finding their community cultlike and their insistence on living within a Demi-Plane a lifestyle choice that's going to inevitably have horrible consequences for a lot of unwitting people. The two tend to butt heads a lot ideologically.
Mechanically, she mans the DPRI Outpost and is the NPC associated with the general shop; She is also the representative to the Demi-Planar Research Institute in-universe.
