Savell Arvorysk is a Grey Jedi who assisted Heln Kadrin and his crew in their vigilante efforts before she was killed by Imperials.

Personality

  • She is extremely cold and unapproachable for the most part; Heln didn’t know she had a sense of humor until they were working together for about a month.
  • She doesn’t hesitate to kill, like other Jedi would. If someone is a Terrible Person, she’ll just slice them in half without a second thought. She's a bit cold-blooded in her reasoning and savage in battle; Heln comments she’d make a good Mandalorian if she ever decided to hang up her lightsaber.
  • Bitingly sarcastic. If you can’t handle the sass, then you might as well leave or allow yourself to be verbally roasted to death.
  • Vodka Aunt energy; either lets the kids run amok or scares them into behaving

History

Savell left the Jedi Order after seeing how they were so caught up in Legalism and rules rather than doing what the Force called them to. She was frustrated with her Jedi brethren and wasn’t afraid to voice it to the Council on more than one occasion, getting her in trouble even though she didn’t care. When the time came for her to try for training a Padawan, the Council politely and coolly declined that privilege; they didn’t want her seeding her thoughts into the youth and creating more Jedi like her. Savell took that as a strong sign that moving under the laws of the Council was not for her, and formally detached herself from the Order.

She started acting as a lone protector for people who needed help throughout the galaxy, mostly in the Outer Rim since the Jedi Council had been lax in sending aide in those regions and areas controlled by Hutt Space.

Savell and Heln Kadrin's first encounter was anything but friendly. They had been engaged in a dogfight in space and both crash landed on a barely colonized moon, where they resumed fighting face to face. Savell tried to slice the Mandalorian in half with her lightsaber and was surprised when it didn’t work on his beskar—Heln used that brief moment of surprise to headbutt her, enraging her even more. They resumed again the next day before Heln called for a truce, stating that it would be easier for them to work together to get off the moon than to continue fighting to their presumable deaths.

They decided to join forces at first so that they could raise enough money to get themselves off the moon once they made it to the nearest colony. They assisted with ridding the settlement of some miners who had been taking advantage of the locals and their hospitality and decided then that maybe working together in the long run could be beneficial. Once they were able to get a ride off the moon and to a more civilized planet, Heln purchased a ship--The Breakneck--and the two continued with what they had been doing individually, working together and getting better results from their partnership.

It took a while for the Jedi and the Mandalorian to get used to each other, as they had very opposing personalities; Heln was also reluctant to build any sort of meaningful relationships with anyone and continually pushed back against Savell wanting to get to know him better. The ice started to break when she came to his cabin at night to calm him down when he was plagued by nightmares relating to his family being killed, using the Force to promote a sense of peace in his mind. Once Heln realized what she was doing, he started to open up to her a little more. This led to them awkwardly diving into a romantic relationship that didn’t last very long. A few reasons for their short-lived relationship had to do with them still not knowing much about each other, and both trying to get something out of it. Savell felt as if the Jedi had continually tried to squash any sort of romantic feelings she felt and saw this as a way to rebel and break the Jedi Code even further, partially using it as a “screw you” to them. Since she had no experience with this sort of thing, she was mostly going through the motions and basing it off of however she thought relationships were supposed to go. The one positive outcome was that she was able to learn more about Heln and what happened to his family, and why he did what he did. The relationship, however, didn’t last very long since it didn’t start out strong. Once they broke things off, it was a little weird on the ship for a while.

Heln picked up a young girl, Fia, a couple months after the breakup, which helped to sort of distract the two from the failed relationship since they had to get used to the new kid and prevent her from trying to continually run away. Savell wasn’t too sure about adding the girl to the crew, but let Heln do it anyways since he seemed so adamant on helping her even though Fia wasn’t all that enthusiastic about that help. She found Fia to be more trouble than she was worth as the girl was running Heln ragged with her running away. She did, however, step in and talk to her, explaining that Heln was doing this for her own good and that if she gave him a chance, she might like it on the ship and appreciate having someone she could call a responsible parent who cared for her welfare despite what she did. That helped to change Fia’s mind as the runaway attempts started to grow less and less frequent.

She was the first to realize that Kantho Wit had stowed away on The Breakneck when the ship was refueling on an AgriCorps planet and yanked him out of his hiding place to present him to Heln. She was curious to see what he would do, and was a little surprised when Heln decided to keep the kid there instead of returning him to the Jedi farming colony. She was even more surprised when he sort of dumped the kid on her, expecting her to look after him seeing that he was a fellow Force user. Savell did her best to pick up where the boy had left off with his training, though she grew impatient with how insecure and hesitant he was when it came to her method of teaching. Heln started to gravitate towards Heln more as a result, which suited Savell just fine as she didn’t believe she was very good with children anyways.

Savell had another Jedi child handed off to her when Heln sheltered Dai Raan—a Jedi on the run following Order 66 and the aftermath—on the ship. She got along with the girl than with Kantho since she was more eager to learn what she had to share with her. Zyhlis Umbru joined the crew right on the heels of Dai, adding to the number of Force users significantly. Savell could tell that Zyhlis was putting up a front of sorts and trying not to grow too close to anyone, though she betrayed her motherly instincts by subtly doting on the kids. She was also able to pick up on the budding feelings that the Anzati woman had for Heln. Savell decided not to comment on this, however, biding her time to see how this would develop and if it would crash and burn like her own relationship with the man.

She was kicked off of the ship after she left on a lengthy trip, returning with what she thought to be Antos Creed’s helmet and claiming she had killed the man for Heln, thus putting an end to his revenge quest so that he could get on with his life. Heln was furious with her and immediately threw her off the ship at their next stop, not offering an explanation to anyone regarding the reason for his behavior or the extent of what Savell had done. She tried not to hold it against him, telling herself that he would get over it eventually while she went on to wage a solo war against the Empire. Savell took to performing hits against Imperial compounds, ships, and docks, keeping up contact with some crew members of The Breakneck and waiting for an apology from her friend. She eventually got one over a brief commlink call, but was never able to talk to him in person again as she was killed in an explosion involving sabotaging an Imperial Star Destroyer.

Abilities

Skillset

  • Prefers the head on approach to negotiating
  • Can withstand fairly cold temperatures due to her Pantoran biology

Unique Abilities

  • Uses Force Lightning for combat and also for things that she probably doesn’t have to use it for, like jump-starting a dead battery in a speeder.
  • Force abilities; telekinesis, agility, precognition
  • Was able to learn to live on as a Force Ghost, so she haunts Heln’s ship and talks to the Force users on there

Relationships

Jedi Order

  • Acquaintances with Master Sadheis Joduz. Appreciated her divergent thoughts on the way that the Council ran things and the two encouraged each other to think for themselves.
  • Butted heads with Master Devis, who was very much entrenched in the Jedi teachings.

Breakneck Crew

  • Heln Kadrin, work partner, ex, friend
  • Fia Kadrin, views her more as a niece than a daughter
  • Kantho Wit, tries to help him but feels she’s too abrasive to be able to teach him anything
  • Dai Raan, kid has a lot of moxie, which she appreciates
  • Zyhlis Umbru, something of an older sister to her, despite being hundreds of years younger
  • Kay-Cee, half of the time a helpful asset, the other half he’s a real pain in the butt

Trivia

  • Wields a purple lightsaber with a metal/wood hilt
  • Won’t say how she was blinded, and, no, she is not telling how it happened no matter how many times she’s asked
