for those who disapprove of kittypets joining rimeclan, mutt became a grim exemplar as to why. after having joined the clan alongside his closest friend, mulberry, the two cats lives took vastly different paths. mutt was christened ashpaw, and mulberry became sloepaw. while the latter was able to adapt flawlessly, ashpaw never quite fit in, despite his dire attempts to do so. this led him to be quickly reviled by peers, who sunk their fangs into the idea of a kittypet being unfit to thrive amongst them. soon enough, his and sloepaw’s relationship faltered—the once infallible warmth between them had become snow-clad, and the two drifted apart. much to the clan’s chagrin, he was made a warrior, though at the belated age of fourteen moons.

he would flee the clan just a few weeks later, and under a starless sky, reclaim the name mutt. he found shelter in a cave, just far enough from rimeclan territory that his presence would go undetected by patrols.

he now lives as a nomad, albeit never straying too far from his former clan’s territory. unlike rimeclan’s general consensus, mutt isn’t at all an odious cat, and is actually quite pleasant. though coming off as extremely cold, reserved, or even intimidating, he isn’t hostile. mutt is easy-going, empathetic, and forgiving, holding no grudges against anyone. yet, his trust is threadbare, and getting close to the cat has become nearly impossible.
