Vedsahnir was once a highly respected captain in the Shadowbinder’s military, whose company specialized in espionage and other covert operations behind enemy lines. His most trusted friend and lieutenant was Zahkrii, an exceptionally skilled assassin who had been with Ved since they were both young trainees in the army. They were absolutely inseparable, and any dragon in high command knew that if they assigned Zahkrii and Ved to a mission, it would be completed no matter the cost. That is, until Ved’s company was given a deep-cover mission in Light territory.

The mission quickly went sideways and Ved’s company was discovered, leading to a bloody battle with Light forces that greatly outnumbered them. Zahkrii tried to convince Ved to surrender and have the company live to fight another day, but Ved refused - they would not live as prisoners. That night, Zahkrii snuck away from the company, and in the dawn Ved and the rest of his troops were executed. He died cursing Zahkrii’s cowardice and vowed to take his revenge on him no matter how long it took.

His powerful emotions brought him to the Tavern instead of crossing over into the afterlife, and though Krahdinok had reservations about allowing such a tumultuous spirit into their home, Vahlokdozii insisted that he would only be able to heal in their sanctuary. At first Ved simply spent his time in the training arena practicing his skills in battle, preparing for the day he finally met Zahkrii again, but when Morokei came to the Tavern he mellowed significantly. He began to devote his time to keeping the clan (and especially Morokei) safe, and eventually Vahlokdozii granted him a place in the leadership of the Tavern. He became Krahdinok’s Paladin Captain and close friend, giving a rare smile whenever she calls him “Captain Grumpy”.

When Zahkrii found his way to the Tavern as well, Ved bitterly ignored him for months before their simmering resentment exploded into a violent skirmish out in the training arena. When Krahdinok finally broke them apart, it was clear the catharsis actually did them some good, and they came to a cold truce. They still converse with veiled aggression and deal with their pent-up hurt in less than constructive ways, but at least they don’t brawl outside anymore.

Now a days, Ved can often be found in the company of Morokei or out training his fellow paladins. Since he cannot leave the Tavern, he appoints Zahkrii any tasks that have to be carried out in the mortal world. They still are not on very good terms, but with Kunzii's counseling he is confident they might one day be able to pass one another in the hallway without growling.
