throughout his life, he aspired to enlist into the marines, being permitted to do so by his mother. he aspired to support japan by doing so, as well as to protect all throughout his nation.

upon being accepted into hope's peak academy as the ultimate marine, he was offered a compromise by the staff—if he were to allow them to experiment on his body, he would have a greater understanding of himself as an ultimate, afterwards. agreeing to their terms, feline ears and a fish tail were surgically added to his body, thus granting him greater mobility and enhancing the usefulness of his basic senses. whilst there were seemingly no shortcomings to the surgery, he did grow to have a deep trust in hope's peak academy, holding a firm belief that they would not use their surgical expertise to their advantage (in the case of their students).

throughout the killing game, he was one of the only two students within their class that would likely not be potentially charged with at least negligent homicide, upon return to a normalized society. his only crimes being homicide via casualty and collateral damage, which he is protected from arrest for by the rules of engagement, he is one of the only two of their ranks to have a “justifiable” reason for committing murder. though his memories were erased in preparation for the killing game, he maintained his belief that killing should never be done without purpose, and consistently attempted to coerce his classmates into believing the same, in hopes of preventing such pointless killings. unfortunately, his wishes did not come to fruition.

following the eruption of violence and unrest throughout the nation, he chose to join the future foundation, thus choosing the pursuit of hope above that of despair. he uses his skills as a marine to his advantage, when it comes to attempting to instill the general public with hope, or rescuing average citizens.
