Physalia

God of Resilience & Destruction

male (he/him)

age & birthday N/A

6'3" (height can vary)

West Indian Ocean Coelacanth & Portuguese Man o' War

one of Planet Teipra's Six Gods

Physalia, based on Latimeria chalumnae (West Indian Ocean Coelacanth) and Physalia physalis (Portuguese Man o' War), is the god of resilience and destruction of planet Teipra. As one of the six gods of Teipra, Physalia plays a major role in the survivability of the planet's diverse environments and holds control over severity of natural disasters. Not only does Physalia ensure the endurance of his home planet, he additionally has the ability to cause mass destruction. Whether such chaos is necessary or not depends on the situation, though in most cases, a period of guaranteed flourishment and recovery follows. Such powers have built Physalia as a guardian deity to Teipra's mortals for thousands of years, worshipped for his capacity to destroy and rebuild societies alike. Though this title was stripped away from the god's identity following, quite literally, a world ending catastrophe that caused mass casualties across Teipra.

appearance

Physalia bears two forms, one for reselience and one for destruction. Physalia mainly takes on his "resilience" form with dark blue hair, yellow eyes, and a tail resembling that of a coelacanth. His "destruction" form, on the other hand, has light blue hair, purple eyes, and tail(s) resembling the stingers of a Portuguese Man o' War. When in this destruction form, Physalia's markings glow, teeth grow sharper, has claw-like fingers, and has glowing bone protrusions on his back.

  • tail number varies in destruction form
  • markings on arm resemble a Portuguese Man o' War and the skeleton of a coelacanth
  • if drawing in destruction form, please make him look aggressive/angry

Story [wip]

Two forces lie within Physalia's soul, one of resilience and one of destruction, meant to balance each other out. Such divinity doesn't mean that the god can control the forces within him, though. When taking on his destructive form, it is rumored that anyone or anything standing in his way will not retreat unscathed. When in this form, Physalia wields intense venomous abilities that he is able to release using either his tails, fingertips, or weapon, causing his ruination to linger far longer than intended. The venom diseases all that it comes in contact with: coral reefs are bleached of their color, algae blooms flourish across bodies of water, forests are withered away. This poison can only be subdued in two ways: time itself must pass for the toxins to dissolve away, or Physalia has the capacity to step in and elimate the venom himself. In situations where Physalia personally removes toxins himself, the strength of the poisons cause damage to his own body.

Physalia is unable to fully control his destructive form, only guarenteeing that an event of unruly demolition is to happen sooner or later. Thousands of years ago, before the planet of Teipra began to show vital signs of diminishing, a multiple-century long fued between Physalia and another god took a violent turn. Fueled with rage, the forces within Physalia's soul began to crack, unleashing a near-global catastrophe as Physalia wielded his powerful venom, leveling cities and landscapes with a swing of his weapon. Savagely unshackling his fury caused mass casualties across Teipra, hundreds of thousands of mortals losing their lives in the crossfire. Physalia, unable to manage his own actions, dismantled the opposing god's very being with his own two hands, successfully wiping one of Teipra's very few gods off of the planet. It didn't take long after this for many of the other gods to step in and knock Physalia back into his right mind. What no one knew at the time was that this event has been the catalyst that began Teipra's end.

Soon realizing what he had done, Physalia chose to exile himself away from society, closing himself within his own realm. The god was filled with shame, unable to forgive himself for the thousands that have died by his hands, unable to forgive himself for what he had become. Since then, Physalia renounced himself as a god of resilience, choosing to believe that it would be safer for Teipra's mortals. Now, Physalia has spent countless centuries alone within his realm. Talk of his disappearance rattled the Teiprian people. Many believed that the god had perished, writing into their history books of Physalia's misdeeds. Some celebrated the god's withdrawal, destroying temples and relics meant to worship Physalia's very being. Others were quick to notice the consequences of Physalia's absence.

Soon after Physalia vanished, Teipra's doom accelerated tenfold. Natural disasters hit the planet twice as hard, civilians found it harder and harder to rebuild. The planet showed clear signs of its plummeting health. Dohrnii, another goddess of Teipra, took it upon herself to find a solution to Teipra's fragile state. To do this, she needs to unite the other gods of the planet, Physalia included. Unfortunately, for a long time, Physalia was unwilling to lend a hand in fear of causing further harm. Ultimantely, once Physalia pushed aside his internal turmoils, he steps up to help revive the planet he calls his home, even if it means losing his own life in the process.

Trivia
  • Physalia was named after the scientific name of the Portuguese Man o' War, Physalia physalis.
  • The "resilience" half of Physalia's powers was inspired by coelacanths, AKA by how they're known as one of the few prehistoric fishes still around today.
  • Physalia often has the souls of different fishes and marine animals following him around in the form of glowing of skeletons.

kamára

Kamára was one of the few gods who still viewed Physalia as a friend after his incident. Before shutting himself away, they regularly visited each others’ realms. They often poke fun at each other, exchanging incomprehensible jokes, and acting more as siblings than deities.

dohrnii

Physalia and Dohrnii never got along, the two gods despising each others’ guts. Facing many of the planet’s hardships throughout the centuries together only further solidifies their differences.

regalis

Regalis and Physalia have a mutual respect for one another despite having their personal feuds against each other. A silent trust lies between the unlikely friends, even through their disagreements.
