Duna and his brother Mosi grew up as princes in the Pack of Bright Meadows. They thrived in their privileged lives, beloved among their packmates and training well to eventually become leaders. Duna was expected to bear children to pass along his lineage, but he never sired any, even after his parents retired and he took over as king.
When Mosi was slain and Layali was revealed to be cursed with a Dreamwalker, Duna banished Layali, at first believing her to have been the one to kill him. After Layali's banishment, the Pack was left in shambles, but Duna remained strong for their sake and finally took on a mate, Tau.
Personality
Duna was always the more quiet and subdued brother. He took his training and royal status seriously, even criticizing the way his niece was being raised, to Mosi's frustration. Duna's parents encouraged him to have pups just like Mosi, as the Pack of Bright Meadows was so few in numbers, but Duna had never genuinely been interested in females.
Duna and Mosi shared a close bond growing up. Duna was always compared to his brother, leaving him with a rather low self-esteem, but he loved Mosi and was deeply pained by his death.
Duna loved his niece but always thought she was a bit of a brat, judging the way Mosi treated her like a delicate flower. Even though he chose to banish the princess, he was merciful towards her, as customarily cursed dogs were to be killed as soon as they posed a threat. Layali grew very bitter towards her uncle and never forgave him for the way he treated her.
Duna and Zola have known each other since they were young. He once thought that he had a crush on her and was jealous that she chose Mosi over him, but this was before he realized that he liked males. As he matured, he was happy for his brother.
He and Zola become the sole rulers of the Pack of Bright Meadows, but this quickly becomes his own responsibility, as Zola is unable to move past her grief.
Tau joined the Pack of Bright Meadows later in his life, and sympathized with Duna for the stress he was under ruling the pack without Mosi and Zola. Initially he offered to help organize hunting parties and chart new paths to travel, but he grew close to Duna during this time, and the pair fell in love. Tau's daughter, Imani, became a princess, which was much needed.
