Profile

One of the Brethren (angels). A doctor and a scholar.

She goes by Fidelis around mortals when in cognito. For immortals, she provides a critical service, for she can heal and alter souls to a degree that no other being can. Therefore, the Fallen (devils) do not accost her, for fear of losing her service. Towards Brethren, she provides her services without charge. Towards Fallen, there must be a price paid or a trade-off in the alteration to avoid harming the Plan, but she will still offer her services fairly and honestly once the conditions are met.

Her ability to manipulate souls must be performed with consent and can easily maim an immortal under its effect. It is widely believed that this is the origin of her angelic name, Trust.

Why she is named "The Deceiver" in legend is a very, very long story and also incredibly heretical. She is something of a golden child among the Brethren, for reasons unknown, suggesting The Deceiver may not be a *negative* epithet. Nonetheless she is not trusted by mortals and is often mistakenly believed to be one of the Fallen or a rogue angel. Deceiver does not actively enforce the Divine Plan and does not look for trouble, and most Fallen will not dare to bother her, for both pragmatic and safety reasons. It is usually overly zealous mortals who start shit. *Very* overly zealous, since other angels will protect her with their lives, even though she is not essential to the Plan, and few mortals will want to deal with that. This is a good thing, because her ability to defend herself against mortals is much more limited than against immortals.

"Levi" the Leviathan, one of the Fallen, is good friends with her, against all odds.

Her admiration of the world itself marks her as one of the Angels of Wonder. She is their de facto leader and is responsible for the "humanizing" operation that grants many of the Angels of Wonder functioning humanoid forms, so that they may better understand Creation. She also has done this to herself, and is physically human in all respects, except for her powers and immortality.
