Born as the seventh child out of thirteen to the royal couple, Noir’s childhood was an easy one. He lived in luxury and the effect such a privileged childhood had on him is noticeable - what is not so readily noticeable is how much such upbringing skewed his perception of family. Noir’s sole ambition in life is power. He has resented his older siblings his whole life because he feels they stand in his path to become king, and he never hid that resentment, leading to a strained relationship with everyone in the palace.

Noir was known as a problem child. He picked fights with his older siblings constantly despite them being older and bigger and stronger, and said fights generally ending with Noir whimpering and licking his wounds. When he could not express his anger through fighting his older siblings, he picked on the younger ones. In those cases his parents (and the family’s servants) would stop him and punish him before he could do any real damage - and those experiences led Noir to believe that his parents played favourites and that he was not part of this exclusive group. But being punished did not teach Noir to leave his siblings alone: it taught him how to cause harm without claws nor fangs.

As he entered adolescence, Noir learned how to harness his silver tongue to lie and manipulate. He enjoyed making his younger siblings (the youngest ones especially) feel afraid of him, and as he did Noir found out just how much ruling through fear delighted him. As far as his older siblings were concerned, their relationship only worsened with time. Noir tried his best to turn them against each other in the hope that they would destroy the family from within - to mixed results, as he did sour their relationships with each other, but it did not bring Noir any closer to his ambition.

At the brink of adulthood, Noir had enough. He chose to leave the palace to travel the world in the hope of finding a way to become king - be it through getting rid of his siblings or impressing his father enough to make him pick Noir. His siblings derided his idea, but it did not stop him.
